On Saturday the beeper started going off even though both refrigerater door and freezer door were shut properly. When I opened the refrigerator door I realized that the screen showing the 5 degree temperature for the refrigeration section was flashing and F2 was also flashing alternatively. I pressed the fan button which you supposedly press during the summer and the beeping eventually stopped. The fridge did continue to make a loud clicking noise every so often, even on Sunday. What is wrong and what should I do? Model: KFN 8762 SD ed. 5 years old

Read your manual. F2 is a fault code telling you a sensor is out of order.

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

My refrigerater temp won't go below 55 degrees. Is there something to try befroe bringing the repair man out? The freezer seems to work fine.

The air door "cold control" may be obstructed or the air return may be obstructed. The air return takes the air from the refrigerator section and delivers it to the coil. It must be clear for the fridge to operate properly. The cold control is just a door flap that opens and closes and allows cold air to enter that part of the cabinet. Open the cold control more and see if that helps. You should feel more cold air coming from it. If you don't then there's an obstruction.
If you have a thermometer that goes below zero, place it in the freezer. It should read 0 to -5 degrees f. If it doesn't then there may be another problem.

FPCE19TR frigidaire refrigerator/freezer door beeping at odd times

Hello delgrandma
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

You said, your refrigerator has a sensor for when the door is not closed but lately the beeper goes off at various times and the door is shut. Your husband has tried to level up the door and you don't see anything keeping the door from shutting securely. The beeper even goes off in the middle of the night.

This sounds like the alarm switch or sensor is malfunctioning.
Do you have a refrigerator thermometer? You can buy one in the hardware store pretty cheap.
If so put it into the fridge and make sure the temperature is steady and not fluctuating.
If it fluctuating this may set off the alarm if it is a sensor that triggers the alarm due to temperature drop..
Rather than a mercury switch will only signal the false door opening if it is faulted, rather than a warm temperature!

How old is the fridge?
Here is an interesting report I just read!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

Let me know what you decide!

Frost buildup in ice-dispenser tube

Open the freezer door and look down the ice chute while you shine a flashlite up the dispenser cute from the outside. If you see light around the chute door, it needs to be replaced. The problem you describe is almost always air laekage around that flap. Post back if you need more help.
