When turning on the Lowrance the depth indicator will only register 0.0 and continues flashing the number. The Lowrance is a LCX-17M. We tryed the Lowrance on another boat with a working transducer (106-72) and it still just flashed the 0.0.

After doing a hard reset the depth finder would work in 3 or 4 feet of water but would not work in deeper water of 30 feet. Used a borrowed working depth finder and found it would also not work in deeper water. Took my depth finder and used it on a working transducer on another boat and it worked fine. So have determined that it is my transducer that is not working. I have ordered a new transducer from Lowrance.

    Thanks.

Doing the reset did help it to start working again but only in the shallow water. We concluded we needed a new transducer and have ordered such.

Here is the link to your the lowrance web site. the trouble shooting guide says that if you tried to it on another boat than you might need to take it in for service. but there is a section that explains how to do a soft reset on the unit. you might try that.

Check the connectors, reconnect firmly

1.Make certain the transducer is pointing straight down. Clean the
face of the transducer. Oil, dirt and fuel can cause a film to form on the
transducer, reducing its effectiveness. If the transducer is mounted
inside the hull, be sure it is shooting through only one layer of
fiberglass and that it is securely bonded to the hull. Do NOT use RTV
silicone rubber adhesive or Marine-Tex epoxy.
    2. Electrical noise from the boat's motor can interfere with the sonar.90
This causes the sonar to automatically increase its Discrimination or
noise rejection feature. This can cause the unit to eliminate weaker
signals such as fish or even structure from the display.
    3. The water may be deeper than the sonar's ability to find the bottom.
If the sonar can't find the bottom signal while it's in the automatic
mode, the digital sonar display will flash continuously. It may change
the range to limits far greater than the water you are in. If this
happens, place the unit in the manual mode, then change the range to a
realistic one, (for example, 0-100 feet) and increase the sensitivity. As
you move into shallower water, a bottom signal should appear.
    4. Check the battery voltage. If the voltage drops, the unit's transmitter
power also drops, reducing its ability to find the bottom or targets.

I have a lowrance LCX-17M that keeps blowing the internal fuse. I see a component on the circuit board that is fried, but I don't know what it is called. Does anyone have a schematic of a circuit board? ...

It could be a 33v zener diode that is in the circuit to protect it from high input voltages. If you can send a picture, I will verify. I had the same problem with a similar unit.

Lowrance LCX-19C GPS Receiver Problem

It sounds like you may have to send it out for service, but before you you do there are a few things you can try.

Low voltage can cause erratic behavior. Since you already wired directly to the battery, check the plug for corrosion.

Try unplugging the transducer cable to see if the display still behaves erratically. You wont see depth readings but you should still see the screen going black. If no erratic behavior with transducer unplugged then problem is in the transducer cable or the plug. A common source of failure is at the plug because the added stress of plugging and unplugging cables can cause the socket to twist slightly which can cause a short.

Make sure you have the latest software update.

How to see if your LCX-19C is already using version 1.8.0 software:
  1. Press the MENU button twice on your LCX-19C.
  2. Select SYSTEM SETUP.
  3. Select SOFTWARE INFORMATION.
  4. The software version for your unit is located under the line that says "LCX-19C" (ex. "Version 1.8.0").
  5. If your version is the same version listed above, there is no need to download the software.
If it is lower than 1.8.0 you can download the update from this link: LCX-19C UPDATE
Copy it onto a blank MMC card and install it in your GPS. The GPS should prompt you on how to install the update.

If you need to send the unit in for service click this link: LOWRANCE SERVICE

Good luck!
