I was watching my Mitsubishi WD-52531 TV and all of a sudden there was a pop and TV turned off. I let it cool down for about 15 minutes then turned it back on and there was sound but no picture. I checked the lamp indicator light and it is not on. Just wondering what it could be?
Thanks for any help,
Matt Biederman
There is an access door and the lamp can be easily removed with a screwdriver and there is also a reset button on the front that you can reset using a ball point pen. From what I researched, after changin a bulb on these TV's some capacitors fail and "pop" on the DM board, You will have to take it apart and re-cap the caps on the DM board 1000uf 10v (4 - 7 of them). This solves the problem in most cases
hint: the two pins the lamp plugs onto go directly to the ballast which is really a power supply for the lamp.
not clear from all you have said if ballast is the problem===these sets had a lot of issues; anything, even too much dust on the fans inside will shut it down...........
Check to make sure the lamp is in correctly and that you've closed everything up properly. If you don't close the cover, the sensors will tell the computer in the TV that the door is open and won't let the TV turn on.
Other than that, could be a bad lamp or bad ballast.
Always buy OEM lamps, or better-than-oem equivalents! Philips lighting is the best lamp manufacturer out there for these TVs. They invented the thing!
Buy from Authorized distributors, and don't buy the "cheap" stuff. savnig 20 bucks will cost you more in the long run--believe me!
Ballast Board may be Bad it is what turn Lamp on Call Encompass for parts 1-800-638-3328 or look for one on E-Bay they have good deals on Parts. Also CK Fan to Lamp it maybe defective .Call Mats for Fan 1-800-628-1118 they have lamps also.
The first thing to try is to reclose the access door to the lamp area. There are interlocks there that may be marginally connected. Try to reclose all access doors and report the results here.
it souds like the cooling fans arent working correctly. if the tv is staying on long enough to warm up and then shutting down i would look at the cooling fans
