The usual cause of this is shorted output transistors. If you have experience with repairs and can solder, you should be able to repair this yourself. Open up the unit and look for the 3-legged parts attached to the heat sink. These are the output transistors. Post here the markings on those parts so I can give you the entire part number. In order to determine the bad ones, you should have an ohmmeter or diode checker. Post the parts markings and we'll continue from there.

On my Onkyo TX-NR737

Hello Anthony, try your Onkio, with other sources of sound, example DVD or CD and check that the sound is clean and shows no error
Then, look for another player with Blue Tooth connection and try, if you have the same error, you may have to update the Firmware
You go on the Onkio page and you search in downloads and by type of equipment and model, then you download it in an empty Pen Drive, without any file type, then you place it in the Onkio and download it
If this does not correct the fault, I suggest you look for a specialized technical service
Greetings Franco Dosil

I cannot link to my Onkyo with my cable provider (only sound, no image). All my other HDMI sources work perfectly. I see the word digital under the CBL option, but not the others...

Hello Julie, what model of Onkio do you have?
What the CBL option indicates is that it is linked to the digital audio input, you have to enter the Onkio menu and select CBL via HDMI
Send the model of your Onkio, to review and confirm what you say
I hope you can solve the problem
Greetings Franco Dosil

After turned on the power, the unit shuts down immidietly

There is a problem in either the power supply or amplifier output stages. The unit is programmed to shut down in such an event to protect other circuitry.

Using a schematic see if you can isolate the power going to the output stages. If unit stays on then the anomaly is in power amp stages. If it still shuts off problemo is in power supply - check diodes and capacitors.

Onkyo ht-rc180 standby light blinks will not start.i tryed factory reset, still blinks

The amp protection circuit has been activated. Remove the power cord from the wall outlet immediately. Disconnect all speaker cables and input sources, and leave the AV receiver with its power cord disconnected for 1 hour. After that, reconnect the power cord and reconnect an input and a pair of speaker wires onto the unit. If the receiver still does not turn on than you will have to bring it in for service. Turn up the volume and if the receiver doesn't shut down, power off the receiver and add another pair of speakers. Power up the unit again and turn up the volume. If it doesn't shut down, power off the unit again. Now connect all your input sources and turn on your receiver. If the unit shuts down again, your unit will need to be further serviced at an authorized Onkyo service center.

Onkio amp popped and smoked and won't turn on

check the back and there should be a fuse holder and check the fuse. Likely that your fuse is blown.
Otherwise you might have caused a short in your speaker which will do more damage but check the fuse first.

My Onkyo HT-R510 will shut down after several

Might be over heating. Make sure you don't have anything sitting directly on top of it. I even put a little fan blowing outward at the back of my system to keep it cool.

Sounds is lower than it should be, possible short.

Having read the problem report two or three times, it appears that you're running ~three~ cables from your cable receiver to the home theater system - orange, and red&white.
Often, when you can hear a low-level signal on an input, it's due to 'leakage' from another input, and it's my hunch that the cable receiver is sending audio through the red and white (analogue) connections, which you've plugged to the main sat/cable receiver inputs.
To confirm this, I'd be interested to know if, when you unplug the red and white connectors from the back of the Onkyo, the quiet signal completely disappears.
If that's the case, I would suggest either going into the cable receiver's cofiguration to see if 'digital audio out' is set (if such is possible) or switching the input to 'cable/satellite'...
Hope this brings you closer to the root of the problem!

Onkio receiver

The output transistors should be replaced in pairs. Also, It may not be just the output transistors that are defective. If you have no experience with these types of repairs, I would suggest that you bring the unit to a service shop. The outputs will run about $15-$25 per pair.

No sound when first turned on.

i have an amplifier ONKIO too and my generation is older than yours but i'm the same probleme and it's normal if you use this amplifier to your speakers. the internal switch must be heat to give a normal sound without distorsion. it's the principal problem of the onkio amplifier but after the quality of thr sound is great
so take the time and be patient now you know you have to start on your amplifier 5mn before use :)
