To adjust stopping speed you'll have to remove the plate by pulling it up. Then there is a plastic cover that has some screws, remove the screws and remove the plastic cover, you'll find a variable resistor that reads something like brake. Adjust it to the left or to the right with a screwdriver and see at which position works best.
To solve the constant speed problem you'll have to replace the pitch regulator.
Go to any panasonic/technics service and buy the pitch. If you have a bit of soldering skills you'll be able to replace it by yourself. You can access the pitch regulator unscrewing all the screws under the device and then removing the cover.
Hope you can solve the problem!

The platter on my Technics SL 1200MK2 stopped spinning. The power works fine... the platter doesn't want to turn. It feels like it just wants to be stuck?! Never had this problem with any of Technics...

If you remove the rubber pad from the top of the platter then you should be able to lift the platter off the servo drives' center shaft,
from memory the unit is not attached just held on by gravity,if the servo magnet is gone the take it in for a service and pay the man for his time,

My first problem on my 1200s was a pitch control issue and easy to fix, with a little cash, never use second hand parts unless you know what you are doing because when they fail on you while playing to a packed dance floor then youll get more of a supprise than you barginned for,

Motor problem?

If its still working then GREAT! The direct drive system uses magnetic frequency to drive the table platter. If you havnt already....Remove the platter and clean the coke off the magnet under it. Not sure at this point but hope that helps!

EVERYTIME I PLAY A RECORD IT DRAGS TO PICK UP SPEED

Are you sure you have a Technics SL1200MK2 Direct Drive Turntable? If so, then there is a major problem with the drive system. This can only be diagnosed and repaired by a qualified technician.

If your turntable is not the Techics SL1200MK2, and you have no idea what turntable you have, look at the model's label, if it says BELT DRIVE - this is the reason why it drags to pick up speed. If it says DIRECT DRIVE, then take it to a service center for repair.

Technic 1200mk2 has no speed control

This unit is NOT belt driven. It is direct drive, meaning, that a series of Integrated Circuits (IC's), and various other electronic components control it's speed. If it's going very fast, more than likely one of the IC's (or multiple), have gone bad. You need to take this to a service center for repair.

Technics dj deck 1200mk2

So the unit powers up still? First and foremost check to make sure there is nothing forcing the platter to not rotate. If the platter is fine, and there is nothing holding it back, then you have a drive issue. More than likely one of the IC's (Integrated Circuits) failed, or it could be one or some of the other resistors which control the drive/platter on this unit.

Unfortunately, this is not an easy fix. You will need to take it to a qualified service center for repair. Make sure you ask the service center if they are familiar with the drive of the Technics SL1200MK2, many service centers are not.

Braking not working right

Well, does the platter spin at a constant speed (33 or 45 rpm), or does it spin super fast? If it spins at a constant speed, and it just wont stop, replacing that pot should do the trick (VR201 can be purchased HERE). You can attempt to replace it yourself (soldering skills are required), or just buy the part, and have a service tech replace it for you.

If it does not solve the problem, then the issue is with one of the IC's (integrated circuits). This is a more complex diagnosis and repair. But try replacing VR201 first, then taking it from there.

Good luck!

Motor

This is a drive issue. You will need to have it professionally serviced, as there are many issues which may affect the drive of this unit. FYI, there is no 'motor' in a direct drive turntable. It is driven by various circuits on a circuit board, and if any one of them goes bad, your drive will be affected. The issue could also be a faulty pitch control as well.

Technic 1200 mk2 turntable wont spin

need to know if it powers up. Does it try to spin, do you hear it trying to spin? More than likely the on/off switch went bad. No, I am not referring to the ON/OFF knob. THere is a switch this engages when turned. The part is S601. You might also want to replace the Start/Stop switch as well. If neither work, then the issue is on the main PC board, and probably IC101, or IC201 with the problem. At this stage, you will have to have a service tech look at your unit.
