My dc17 squeals when the brushes are rotating. I have replaced the brushes twice and the belt three times. It has been back to the factory twice and they say they have done the same thing. The suction is still there but it is getting to the point I might have to wear ear plugs to vacuum any suggestions.

SOURCE: carpet setting not working

there is a belt in the nozzle that is driven by a small motor in turn will drive the roller when set to carpet. did you completely dis-assemble the nozzle? ie, to remove the roller and clean the endcaps? this would also show the belt. The gear on the motor wears very easily and could also be worn. I would change the nozzle or get a new Flair. new nozzles cost about $25-$30.

SOURCE: rotating brush will not turn on my Dyson DC07

Yes I had the same problem on my animal Dysom. There is a button on the top of the dysom that turns the cacuum on. Right beside that button is another one that turns on and off the brush!!! Good luck!!! I accidently one day bumped that button and couldn't get my brush to work but after troubleshooting it, that was my solution.

hooked rugs produce the highest amount of friction opposing the brush rotation, which can over heat the drive motor. try using a height setting that raises the brush so that it barely touches the pile. If this issue has been going on for some time, you may need to replace the drive motor.

Dyson DC17 Loud Noise when using brush bar. I have replaced the brush bar and belt with new ones. No load screaming until using brush bar. Pretty sure its the brush bar motor bearings. Can these be...

Hi Ed,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC17. It's worth checking that the new brush bar and belt are fitted correctly, and rotate freely. The video attached may help in making sure it's correctly aligned.

It's worth checking that no threads, hair or debris are caught within the machine. The brush bar motor itself isn't designed to be serviced, and we would advise against attempting this in case further damage is caused. I'd encourage you to email our experts directly with our contact details - you can reach them at [email protected]. Someone will be in touch as soon as possible to take you through some diagnostic checks to confirm what's causing the noise.

If you'd prefer to call our customer Helpline, you can reach us on 1-866-693-9766.

Best wishes,

Brush roller not spinning. belt, spindle okay. roller taken out and cleaned, no thread. replaced but no dice. ???

Use only BISSELL Style 10 Replacement Belts (#32074) in your BISSELL PowerForce Bagless.
  1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.
  2. With Rotating Floor Brush removed from vacuum cleaner, grasp old Drive Belt and remove from Motor Pulley. Discard old Drive Belt.
  3. Place new Drive Belt over Motor Pulley and stretch other end over Rotating Floor Brush in the space between the bristles.
  4. Place ends of Rotating Floor Brush down into slots on sides as shown.
  5. Turn Rotating Floor Brush by hand several times in the direction of Motor Pulley. If properly installed, Drive Belt will center itself on Rotating Brush.
  6. Reposition Brush Cover and snap back into place. Check to be sure all three latches are secured.
  7. When you turn on the vacuum, do you see the motor that spins the belt spinning at the bottom? If not, it sounds like you may have a burned out motor.
If suggested solutions do not correct the problem, call:

I ran over a shoe lace and the brush on my dyson quit rotating how do i get it going again?

Turn it off and turn it back on again and it should reset. If that dosent work you probably broke the belt. It's easy enough to replace by just removing the bottom plate and the brush and installing the new belt. www.sewvac.com

The roller stop rotating

Remove the brush assembly from the base unit and check the condition of the drive belt. Check the brush end bearings for wound-up thread, hair, and other debris. Place the brush back without the belt--it should spin freely. Reinstall the belt if it is in good condition and check for motor running of the brush. If it seems weak, replace the belt. Hope this helps!

My dyson DC17 makes a loud noise when i tip the handle down to make the brush spin on the floor?

Loud noises are usually caused by worn belts, unbalanced roller brush or debris in the roller brush. Check these things. Here is a link to the belt you need:

The brushes are not spinning. I get suction, but the brushes don't turn.

Your belt has probably broken. Here is a link to the belt you need:

Dyson DC17 Belt

And here is instructions on how to change it:
1. Loosen 3 screws from bottom plate using flathead screwdriver or coin edge and remove it.
2. Wiggle roller until it pulls straight out.
3. Squeeze new belt and loop it over metal drive gear (you'll easily see the gear).
4. Keeping belt on gear, insert edge of roller through belt and rotate the roller while pushing it through belt until it is inside the belt, then continue rotating roller and sliding it over until belt is in position over gears on roller.
5. Insert roller into slots on that it came out of, reattach bottom cover and its done.

My dyson D17 is making an incredibly loud noise, like grinding, when the bottom brush rotates.

Remove the bottom cover plate and rotate the brush by hand. Look for things that make noise like stones caught in the brush path, bad brush bearings, bad drive belt.
