RCA Home Theater RT2906 doesn't respond to Remote

  • Anonymous May 17, 2011

Thanks for the reply - I've been through all the standard troublehooting steps: new batteries, reprogramming the remote, and I even tried a new high end universal remote - all to no avail - and worse, with the way RCA was broken into a thousand parts and sold off, my model seems to have fallen through the cracks and there is no one "officially" standing behind the warranty. I've found numerous articles that any RCA product with "RT-2" as the first 3 characters in the model number are universally known to have defective IR Receivers. With no one willing to back the warranty, the repair would cost nearly as much as the original purchae price. It is really upsetting that these products are still being sold when there is a known functional issue, and no warranty coverage when you discover the problem. I doubt I'll ever buy anything RCA ever again - I can't trust their name or their products. Everything I have found so far about model RT-2906 says cut your losses and throw it out. Guess I'll start shopping tomorrow. Thanks again for trying to help. I just hope my experience will help someone else avoid being ripped off.

Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:

They also sell replacement remotes.

Have you tried new batteries?

I have this same problem but it is specifically tied to the connection of digital optical from my Panasonic 55G310u And only when the HDMI-connected Vizio Blu Ray player is on. It seems as though the receiver is expecting volume. Control through the optical link.

It gets more bizarre...I disconnected the optical link between my toshiba 55" LCD tv and the unit still does not respond to the remote, but only is the tv is set to any input other than colorstream

Bravia kdl52ex700 volume control doesn't work

Look for any jammed buttons on remote, any obstruction like a sticker or gum on the sensor on the TV. If you have such obstructions, the TV will respond only partially.

My Phillips HTS3400/37 Home Theater System came with a remote control, as usual, but it just has stoped working.. I've been trying to make it work by replacing the batteries and it still appears to be...

Try this first on the original remote. Insert the batteries backward and make sure that they make contact with the terminals in the remote control(stick a piece of metal in there to make sure all the posts make contact), then take them off and install them correctly and see if it works, it's a long shot but i've had some luck using this method. now, for the question regarding if the new remote will work, well, i couldn't find the correct code for your receiver using the RCA universal control. The receiver brand(Phillips) is not listed so it probably won't. Here's the RCA control's codes. Just copy and paste the link. http://www.remotecodelist.com/remotes/rca/rca_rcu404.html

I pluged my rca rt2906 into a 220v plug and it blew and started smoking are there any fixes for it?

Hello
The power supply section of your HTS has been destroyed permanently. You have to replace the whole part to get it right. OK.

I just purchased an RCA RT2906 home theater system and am experiencing audio delay when switching channels on my Verizon FIOS cable box. It takes 3 or 4 seconds for the audio to kick in each time I switch...

You can try using an optical cable but you will likely run into the same issue. Each time you change the channel the digital stream is interrupted. The HT likely takes this long to start the decode process.
