There are so many reasons can cause your Lenovo T61 computer running slow than it used to, it is hard to identify just what might be dragging down your Lenovo's performance, let alone implement the necessary technical adjustments to fix it.

So if you want to address the issues more easily, I'll recommend you try a Lenovo speed up software, available here: http://www.speeduplenovo.com/

Over 10+ small utilities packed into one to help detect & fix all slowdowns in 1 click.

Hello,

With time, your computer becomes slow. This is quite normal.

Here are some steps which will somewhat improve your computer speed.

  1. Uninstall any unused programs from the computer.
  2. Erase everything which are no longer needed. (documents, photos, etc)
  3. Run Disk Cleanup
  4. Run Disk Defragmenter
  5. Download and install CCleaner.
  6. Run CCleaner to remove useless files. Also run it to clean the registry (I personnally use it and never had a problem)
  7. Reboot your computer.
You should then see the difference. If you are not satisfied with the results obtained, you may consider adding RAM or format the computer (you will lose all your data and start all over new).

Hope this helps.

Slow scrolling

Scrolling on-line? off-line? If on-line, i would suggest it's the website/internet. If off-line try shutting down unnessary programs running in background. Is your CPU or Memory running high? Open Task Manager, Performance? Open Applications or Processes to see what is using all your resourses, end processes that are unnessary

T61 thinkpad does not detect battery

Normal 0 If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all.
OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time.
If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

My t61 just wouldn't turn on, so we replaced the hard drive, didn't have the operating system so ran linux on it. Now I cannot turn it on again. whats up you think? Its 2 years old.

T61 usually has a 3 year global warranty, if you had the hard disk replace from the Lenovo service center itself they are supposed to be giving the operating system along with the Hard disk.

1. do you get any display on the screen thinkpad logo?
if yes your Hard disk and other hardware devices are functioning properly.all you need to do is reload the linux again.
if you are not getting any display, you have a memory (RAM) or a hard disk problem. which needs a replacement
