I have a NAD 7100 amplifier. It's worked great for years. I use it in the kitchen to power the deck speakers outside - I've been doing this for several years. The other day I started experiencing a problem with no sound coming from the speakers. I've tested the speakers and they work fine. The amp turns on everything seems normal, I can even send music from the Tape 1 Out to another amplifier. I took off the top and took a look at all the fuses - none of them seem burnt or broken. Do you know what the problem might be?

    - Nothing coming out of headphones
    - Speaker cables are connected
    - 2 jumpers are in place

I have an input connected to CD and a cable connecting Tape 1 Output another amplfier. The music seems to pass through but nothing coming out of speakers connected to NAD. I tried switching input to Video and same issue. Tunes pass through but nothing coming out of NAD. I did notice that when I used to turn it on it would turn on, click and then click again and music would start to play. That second click doesn't exist anymore. Hope that makes sense.

No second click when speakers are unhooked. The A B switch looks solid, however, I have no way of telling if it's working - it was before. I've testing both A and B speaker outputs but no sound. Bridging switch is locked into OFF position - this is locked with plastic stip and screw - been that way since I bought it.

Your problem might come up due to various reasons. Here are some points to start checking:

  • Test if there is existing audio at the phones output (use a pair of headphones)
  • Check that the speaker's cables are connected at the amplifier outputs
  • Check that the 2 jumpers connecting pre out and mains (1 for each channel) are at the proper place.

The missing of the second click makes sence. The output stage stays at protection - power off state. This could come due to a crosswired pair of speaker cables (check if the click comes on without the speaker cables connected). The same kind of protection acts when the temperature is very high at the amplifier (check for good ventilation). A good idea also is to check the speakers a - b switch and the bridge switch (at the back of the amplifier).

Here is a user manual, in case you don't have your own.

As far as I can see there is a "hardware" problem at your NAD. I don't know if you're familiar with electronic boards troubleshooting. If not, you have to get the amplifier to a service center for repair.
In case you can manage the electronics, post me back to guide you further.

I have a NAD C315BEE amplifier 5 years old, only one side is working and I have minor distortion. I live in a dusty environment could it simply need cleaning or is this a biger problem

It is most likely to be a small diode or something similar that has given up.What causes this?..generally its just wear and tear or touching speaker wires while the amp is on. You can get it fixed by a technition. It shouldnt cost a great deal.Once fixed,it will be good as new.I had the same thing happen to me once.

NAD C326BEE amp problem. Connected to recommended Wharfdale speakers and NAD CD player and previously working fine for a year. Now red light flashing on amp and no sound when system is turned on.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as a root cause for ntermittent shutdown.

I run a sub and two sets of speakers on speaker B of my NAD C740 through a speaker selector. I think there has been a short circuit caused by the + and - wires touching. The left channel no longer works on...

Check that both left and right channels work on A speakers. If they do, the amplifier is probably good and your problem may be outside the amplifier. Try swapping the left and right speaker connections at the back of the amp to see if the problem changes from left to right. this would tell you if the problem is in the amp or out to the speakers. Hope this helps

Need user manual for setup of the amplifier.

It should say next to the speaker terminals what impedance of speaker the amplifier is rated for. You can drive any speaker within reason with just about any amplifier as long as you are not trying to attain loud levels. Here is a link to the service manual for your amplfier. It states in the schematic power ratings for 2,4, and 8 ohm speakers so you can assume that this amplifier is compatible with those impedance speakers. NAD is generally known for their beefy amplifier sections. http://www.scribd.com/doc/7234868/NAD-3020-Service-Manual

Nad s200

It is most probably a dirty speaker protection relay. gently tap the relay(the one that engages shortly after turning the amp on) when the fault is occurring and see audio returns. This should ascertain the problem. Replace it if it is a sealed type, or if it has a "lid" you can get off, burnish the contacts with a white business card, and give it a spray with contact cleaner/lubricant. Good luck and a "fixYa" rating would be great for my profile :)
