Go to www.washingmachine-manual.com/whirlpool-awe-2214.html for the handbook. Make a cup of coffee and have a read up. If that fails to help then its an engineer I'm afraid.
If you have a good diy friend have them check the belt drive if it has one? Be careful of electricity and water, they don't mix.

An experienced engineer would able to tell if belt is off, or if the main drum bearings were going, simply by spinning the drum by hand.

yes you can just connect the cold water side however you will need to cap off! the hotwater side due to a reverse flow issue when the tub is filling

The door hinge block has fallen inside the front of the washer.To retieve it, tilt the washer back, and you should find it at the left hand side.
Remove all screws securing 2 parts of door together, prise apart with a screwdriver or similar, and the door will come apart.
You can now access the hinge and all other partsd inside the door.
