Drop out of left channel, Adcom GFA5802

The amp works fine for a period of about 3 hours. At that time, the left channel becomes noisy and the signal dies. No errors indicated on front panel. Right channel continues to work fine. The noise sounds like 120Hz buzzing. It sounds like there is an open common on the input to the amp. When the amp cools down, performance is normal.

It sounds as if there is a broken solder joint somewhere that slowly opens up with heat. The other possibility is that an input or driver transistor is dying. Since the whole channel is dying, I would guess the broken joint and/or dying transistor are near the very input of the channel.
A tech can very easily find the spot by playing the amp until it starts to die, then spraying small bursts of freeze spray, one component or area at a time, until the amp suddenly comes back to life.

Adcom GFA 6000 5 channel amp, left and right channels not working

Hello Curtis, comment that teams accompany the Adcom, to know where the signal arrives at the entrances of the GFA6000, I ask you this, to make a map of your sound system and try to find the possible place of failure
Try the left and right speakers, in the outputs that work, it can be the Surround, to check that they are working
I await your comment
Greetings Franco Dosil

Prueba los parlantes izquierdo y derecho, en las salidas que funcionen, puede ser las de Surround, para comprobar que est?n funcionando

My adcom 5400 amp is causing distortion in the left and right ouputs. it started doing this the other day after a lot of music playing. i wanna know whats wrong with it

THE AMP HAS 4 FUSES INSIDE, 2 PER CHANNEL. YOU NEED TO CHECK THESE FUSES. BE CAREFULL, HIGH VOLTAGE- UNPLUG POWER CORD AND LET THE AMP STAY FOR COUPLE HOURS. REPLACE ONLY WITH PROPER VALUE FUSES 5AMP. IF BLOWN AGAIN, NO MORE ATTEMPT TO REPLACE - YOU NEED TO SEND IT TO REPAIR FACILITY LIKE THIS

Can anyone tell me if the Adcom 5503 three channel amp is common ground? I want to use it to power some old school polk SDA 1C as my mains and a CSi5 polk center. Thanks

no reason why not, 3 channel amps used to be the "state of the art" back in the early stereo days. the third channel was produced from the sum of the right and left channels, (the plus side of the right and the plus side of the left were sent to the center channel. produced what was considered at the time a true reproduction of the sound as it was intended to be. your lucky to have this old amp.

I just purchased a GFA 5400 Amp and only 1 channel is working - Seller claims it worked when he Shipped. Is there a way to test the channel that doesn't work? Right Channel works Great!

Can I assume that you have input signals going to both channels and that you have SWITCHED the cables to make sure that both cables going to the power amp are actually sending signals to it?
That will rule out any cable / pre-amp problems.
After you have done that test, let me know.

I have a problem with the Main Output on my Adcom 710 Preamp

Hi am gathering that when it is bypassed (tone) its fine which suggests that the problem is on the treble/bass pots or boards. Try cleaning all the pots with switch cleaner first (open the amp and spray it into the pots them selves through little holes). If not there then Check for a loose wire, and can also tap the boards with back of screwdriver while the amp is playing to listen for dry joints (loose solder and CAUTION for getting a shock also!!)
Pretty sure though on the pots or dry joints.

Best of luck

Adcom 7500, Adcom 5400(bi-amp), Marantz AV-9000, Dakiom HA103

Try just the power amp on ..nothing connected
no Dakiom thingy either. It's a matter of elimination. Start at the output device and work back. Keep the Dakiom out of the loop.
If there's hum with just the Adcom..then it's the ADCOM

ADCOM GFA7500 problem

I don't have experience with the 7500 but I had a 7000 with multiple bad channels (red light lit). The problem was bad filter capacitors on the amplifier boards. The large black filter caps (two per channel) were leaking on every amp board. Its a relatively easy repair if you can solder.

FYI you'll probably need a set of small hex head drivers to open the unit.
