BigVin, normally the bag of seed tell what setting to put spreader on for its proper application, If not try it on #4 setting, it all depend on how fast you wind and walk with a hand spreader. Good Luck.

Scotts Basic Broadcast Spreader can be use to apply grass seed, fertilizer and other lawn care products. Be sure you are following all label instructions on the products you are using. Hilary @ Scotts
Below is a list of spreader settings. You may want to call Scotts at 800-543-8873 and verify the product you are using is able to be used in a hand held spreader.
For fine grass seed (blue, rye, fescue) use setting 1
For coarser seed (tall fescue) use setting 2
For light fertilizer (Scotts fertilizers at a regular rate) use setting 3
For heavy fertilizer (Scotts fertilizers at a heavy setting) use setting 4
For pelletized fertilizer and ice melt products use setting 5
