What do you mean by the leads are "flat type" on the Marantz? Are you referring to the speaker wire output terminals? If so, the graphic equalizer should be connected to the pre-amp input of the amplifier, not the speaker level outputs.
Wiring connection diagram. For Alpine 3215 7-band graphic equalizer with 4-amps. have custom scanned this item for those folks that don't have a need for the full service manual and just need a simple connection diagram. Includes wiring connection diagram and pin-outs of the din as well as output block connectors.
Instructions Hook up an RCA patch cable between the output of your car's stereo receiver and the graphic equalizer's RCA inputs. Use stereo cables with male RCA connectors. Connect the equalizer's outputs to the RCA inputs of your amplifiers. How many cables you need will depend upon the number of amps in the system. In most cases, you'll need two to three to connect the equalizer to the inputs of your amplifiers. Hook up the equalizer to 12-volt power. Use the same power connections you used to connect your amplifiers and receiver. The equalizer's yellow wire should be connected to a constant power source, one that is not switched off with the ignition, and the red wire (not always present) to a switched 12-volt power source. Splice the wires by stripping the insulation off the end of each wire and then soldering or crimping them together. Connect the equalizer's blue "turn-on" lead to the receiver's blue wire. This turns the equalizer on when the receiver is powered up.

See if this link is of any help. I know how crazy these new wire colors can be. I don't know why they don't keep it simple and universal meaning all constant power be red, alt power blue/white, ground black, etc. etc. Even my Hyndai has crazy wires. my red is lf speaker, yellow, lr speaker, etc. Goodluck with it man.
this way should work : connect the OUTPUT of stereo ( ke-4535) to the INPUTS of GRAPHIC EQUALIZER ,then the speaker outputs of the GRAPHIC EQUALIZER to speakers , in this order you have control to adjust the sound coming from the PIONEER stereo . hope this helps
Wire outputs from CD player into inputs of Equalizer, then connect outputs of equalizer to inputs of amp, then output of amp to speakers. Use the best wire possible for all connections, i.e. Monster cables ect.
