first, check your exhaust, you have to make sure there is no buildup at all inside it. this is the most common problem to cause this. if lint gets backed up, there is a sensor that shuts down the heating element after only a few seconds. hope this helps

Your drain is clogged, not the one in the wall where the drain hose goes, but the internal drain, you have to use a 7mm quarter inch drive socket and a 2 inch or longer extension. There are three screws at the very bottom of the washer which must be removed. When standing you cannot see these screws, you have to lay down and look under the washer, between the feet of the washer to find them. Once the bottom cover is removed there is a "cylindrical box" thing with a front cover, the front covers is simply screwed into the cylindrical box housing, unscrew it. Warning, there is a lot of water in here so don't be sitting when you remove it. When you get it open you will discover that this is the internal filter, you'll find small socks and coins and god knows what else in here. Now follow the drain line out and feel it from the outside by pinching it to see if it is clear, if it is clear it should compress quite easily if it is clogged remove it and **** it out with a wire hanger. Reassembly is the opposite of disassembly. This should fix you error message. And buy the way if you remove the top cover there is a "Technicians Manual" stored inside the washer under the top cover that describes some of this procedure and defines all of the error codes.
SOURCE: Made funny sound , finished load ok. 3E error on
Hi,
3E error means =overcurrent detected at the motor.
Possible causes of ‘E3’ codes: 1. Spin drum stuck – Verify that the spinner moves freely to eliminate this cause. 2. Hall Sensor fails or is loose – When the Hall Sensor fails or becomes dislodged, the control doesn't recognize that the motor is spinning and shuts down. The result will likely be an “E3” code in the worst case or “SUdS” if it is only getting a partial rpm reading. Check wire harness connector(s) to motor.
Hall Sensor – PCB that is located on the back of the motor that senses motor rpm. It is not a separate part, but rather an integral part of the motor.
Open the control panel, there should be a tech sheet in there that explains how to put the machine into service mode (press chime and extra rinse keys for three seconds) and what to do while in service mode to track this down. Once on service mode, you can cycle through and retrieve all diagnostic codes... and lots of other stuff that'll help you track this down.
You can also check out the windings on the motor. Unplug harness connector and test from wire insertion side.

SOURCE: Purchased a Maytag Maxima washer
I just bought the same washer and there is a problem with the steam sensing device. Check for code in time window. mine has a F08 and E01. Repairman coming in 2 days.
Please advise me on any recalls and technical information involving error code 3E during a wash load, which appears related to be a faulty control panel. My machine is always shutting down each time it reaches the rinse cycle. Numerous consumers have been complaining about this same model at consumeraffairs.com. Replacement of the control panel is expensive at an average cost of 298 dollars and appears to be the corrective action for other consumers with error code 3E. Over current is not being detected at the motor. I'm disappointed with the quality of this washer considering I purchased it in 2005 for over 1,000 dollars. This problem has forced me to use a local laundry mat to wash my clothes. This error code is not listed in the User manual.
