Hi,
The message which you are facing while formatting your flash drive maybe be due to below reasons.
1) It could be due to virus. Try to scan your flash drive with your anti-virus and check.
2) Second reason would be when you connecting your flash drive it may include some autorun files which starts its own when you connect your flash drive and because that file is running it wont allow to be formatted, so try to delete all the files including in your flash drive and than try formatting.
3) Third reason maybe your flash drive have problem many time it has been found that Flash drive have hardware issue because of which it is not allowing to format.

Regards,
JJ

Hi sampagac ,

There is right protect switch on many pen drives , a physical write protect switch which enables you to either allow writing on the disk or disallow writing on the disk.

All you need to do is toggle the right protect switch and you would be able to write files on your pen drive.
Please find an image below for more information.
Hope this helps ...:) your feedback would be appreciated.

It look like your flash drive(fd) is infected by something. Are you try scan with up to date antivirus?
try scan and format again .
if still face same problem?

TRY FORMAT USING M-DOS:

  • Goto Start -> Run.
  • Type Cmd & press Enter.
  • Type the following command line

Format/x G:
  • Here G: refers to your removable disk drive letter.
  • Press Enter.

PROBLEM AGAIN?
TRY THIS:
    • In the Run window, type "cmd," which will bring up your MS-DOS window.
    • In the MS-DOS window, type "Format F:/fs:FAT32." If your drive is designated with another letter, replace F: with that letter. Change FAT32 to NTFS if reformatting a drive larger than 10GB.
    • Hit "Enter" three times, and you will have reformatted your drive.

Reformat a write protected flash drive

A write-protected flash drive is a device that has been locked to prevent any changes or modifications to its contents. To reformat a write-protected flash drive, you will need to remove the write protection before proceeding with the reformatting process. Here are a few steps you can try:
  1. Check the flash drive for a physical switch: Some flash drives have a physical switch on the side or bottom that can be used to enable or disable write protection. Check your flash drive for a switch and make sure it is not in the locked position.
  2. Use diskpart command: Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type "diskpart", press enter. Then type "list disk" to list all the disks and find the disk number of the flash drive. Type "select disk x" (x is the disk number of the flash drive), then type "attributes disk clear readonly" to remove write protection.
  3. Use Registry Editor: If the above steps didn't work, you can try editing the registry to remove the write protection. Open the Registry Editor by typing "regedit" in the Start menu search bar. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies and look for the key WriteProtect. If it exists, set its value to 0.
  4. Format the drive: Once the write protection has been removed, you can reformat the flash drive by going to the Windows Disk Management tool or by using the "Format" option in the "Computer" or "This PC" window.
Note: Be aware that reformatting will erase all the data on the flash drive, make sure you have a backup of the important data before proceeding with the reformatting process.

My transcend 8gb was write protected and i can't copy or save my files on it......

Transcend suggest that you must download and run the Recovery tool software from their download center (not compatible with JetFlash 210), this shall remove the write protection lock from your flash drive.

Normally caused by improper removal of flash drive, so it is imperative to use the "safely remove hardware" option before disconnecting their flash drive from the computer, this shall prevent the write protection problem.

Click here to look for the recovery tool, just type the model name and all the software associated with your unit will be shown..hope that helps.

My Transcend JFv30/1GB flash drive was corrupting files..sometimes i can't copy or delete files cause it was write-protected...how can i fix it???

Your best bet is to reformat your drive. Go to your My Computer and select the drive. Right-click on the drive and select Format. you can then reformat the drive. Be warned this does delete all of the Data on the drive.

It always shows disk is write protected.

There is a switch on the back on the card. to disable write protection, simply move the switch in the opposite direction.

The pen drive indicates write protected and does not allow to write new files.

Three possible sources for this problem, and three separate solutions.
The following procedures assume your flash drive is assigned by MSDOS to drive E:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM 1: Pen drive write-protect switch set
SOLUTION: move the tiny switch on the pen drive from the icon of a padlock locked
toward the icon of a padlock unlocked
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM 2: MSDOS attribute set incorrectly on any/all files on pen drive
HOW TO DISPLAY CURRENT SETTING: START > Run... > cmd
C:\> E:
E:\> attrib /S /D

HOW TO FIX WRITE-PROTECTION PROBLEM: START > Run... > cmd
C:\> E:
E:\> attrib -r /S /D
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM 3: REGISTRY set incorrectly (targeted by virus or other malware)
HOW TO DISPLAY CURRENT SETTING: START > Run...> cmd
regedit
display HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ CurrentControlSet\Control \StorageDevicePolicies

The valid values for this are 0=Disabled (meaning READ/WRITE), and 1=Enabled (READ only)
HOW TO FIX WRITE-PROTECTION PROBLEM: START > Run... > cmd
regedit
set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
to a value of 0 (Disabled)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A fourth way to "Fix" the write-protection problem would be to reFORMAT the flash drive, but
this "solution" merely resets the ATTRIB characteristic of the top-level directory of the
flash drive (while erasing all files on the flash drive), which is done better with the ATTRIB command,
and completely fails to address the possible write-protect switch or Registry issues.
