Just look in the section for closed captions----the box is the "text" feature and just needs to be turned off; if you did it without a remote it can be undone the same way.

Tv comes on then black square pops on screen

Hello
Closed caption option is "ON". Just turn it 'OFF' If the remote control of your tV has a "CC" button. press it once. If it has't that button, you have to enter its Menu option, surf through, and come to closed caption function window, and select the closed caption OFF.

How do i get out of lock on my tv

This set has a front panel MENU button which is good, since most universal remotes don't seem to work the TV menu.

Use the menu button to get to the closed-caption setup and make sure it is turned off. The black square is because the captioning is set for text mode. That part of the screen is being blacked out so the text (which isn't there) can be displayed.

In mute operation: Want to read what is being said

Hi Wylie77,

The feature you are looking for would is called CC or Closed Captioning. Per your owners manual you would press the menu button, then move up and down to select "CLOSED CAPTION" from the list. Then to edit the feature press left or right. Select CAPTION to on. The manual lists four different types of captioning (C1-C4) and also four different types of "Text" (T1-T4). Usually one of the caption listings will display only when the mute is selected...its just not very clear which one exactly will do it.

One word of warning, you would not want to activate the Text features. This will sometimes have a large black box appear in the middle of your screen providing other information.

Unfortunately JVC does not have a link to your manual on their website, but the manual should be able to be found by entering JVC AV-32120 Manual in a search engine. I would check a few of the results because some maybe free others may ask for a "nominal" fee.

Hope this helps.
