Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but only when you initiate.

If this fails, even though this should fix it, download CCleaner (free) and clean your Windows Registry.

I have charged up my battery on my SP-800UZ Olympus camera, can plug it into the pc, but no program comes up to help me upload my pics from the camera to the pc. I cannot figure out where to go to install...

The Olympus initialization [ib] software is loaded on the internal memory of the Olympus Sp-800uz camera. If you are using a SD / SDHC memorycard, take it out of the camera and reconnect the camera to the computer. If the camera does not pop-up a message to install the software, look with e.g. the windows explorer if there is any Removeable Device which corresponds with the memory of the camera. If there is, open it and look for a setup.exe program. If available, run it to install the software.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Canon ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.

Yes there is an option that you can use to restore deleted files. Its called System Restore. You did not provide any information about your Windows version so the procedure may be a bit different.

From XP onwards the System Restore option is found: Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore. You can also access it through Help and Support by typing System Restore in search bar.

Try restoring your Windows to a date where it worked fine. Try the most recent date before you started experiencing this issue.

You should also check if the Magic Jack is working OK by plugging it another PC.

If System Restores fails, its better to backup your data on D: and reinstall Windows than to keep looking for a solution. This will save you time and frustration.
