It seems that my dcd760 cordless drill driver has striped one of the gears. When I take it apart, can I get a new gear to replace the damaged one?

The gear box of cordless tools is generally and comparatively simple. If you are sure all the parts are present I suggest you engage a member of the family who has the tenacity for jigsaw puzzles to assemble it.
This is more then likely caused by the plastic gears inside the drill wearing down. Makita may replace/repair under warranty depending on when you purchased the drill.
That is a new one, are you sure it doesn't have a clutch and the clutch is on low?. Of all the guns we have burned up here in the shop, we have never stripped the gears. I don't see a clutch on the one in the foto, but if it is stripped, they will probably replace it, check it out. Hope it helps.
I just took mine apart and it appears that you have to replace the entire transmission. It is an easy job and the part is about $34 much cheaper than a new drill. Really, it is one third the price of a battery. Just take the 4 screws out that hold the metal case to the plastic clamshells, slide the front of the drill off, pull the transmission out of the rear of the drill put the plastic piece with the gear indicator on the new trans, if needed, slide the new trans into place, spin the motor if needed to get the output to line up with the planetary gears, slide the front of the drill back into place, rotate the chuck to align the shaft with the transmission output, put the 4 screws back in, enjoy.
Might want to replace the brushes while you are in there as well. I am going to consider this the dewalt version of an oil change
usually you would remove the chuck first under my name in the profile section is the tip for chuck removal, it is a standard thread probably 1/2-13. As far as the gears go try the site Milwaukeetool.com and type in your model number for a parts explosion. Let me know if I can help further
Those gears are only held on the motor with their tight fit, if yours is slipping that easily the motor will have to be replaced. The new motor will have that gear on it.
the transmission comes in assy. all u can do is to match the gear & test every small installed. if it's dw997 see www.erplacementparts.com for your guide how to re-assemble.
