Mac's don't need a driver to recognize the camera however they usually need a specific program for different brands of photos. You can also try opening up iPhoto as that will usually recognize the camera. If iPhoto doesn't work and you don't want to install a new program you can also get a card reader that'll connect via USB and will avoid needing any program to transfer photos.

SOURCE: can"t import my photos onto my macbook pro

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

SOURCE: How do I import videos

When you inserted the memory card your computer added an icon on the desktop, near the upper right corner, for the memory card.
Double-click the memory card and look for a folder labeled MISC.
You'll find the videos in this location.

SOURCE: Has stopped downloading to my

Hi,yes you are right ,sometimes updating causes such problem..
Unless you cancel the update and continue to use previous version of i-photo ,I have another solution to finalize such picture downloading issues.
WHY DON'T YOU USE "A Memory CARD READER" THAT COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR MEMORY CARD..If your MacBook is newest model it should have "Card Reader" if not you can but an External one .IT IS ABOUT 5.00-7.00 $..WITH THAT CARD READER-WRITER YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU NEED ..THIS IS THE EASIEST WAY TO DOWNLOAD YOUR PHOTOS/VIDEOS to PC ..
No more recognizing problem during downloading....
Here is an example of "USB 2.0 26-in-1 Memory Card Reader For CF xD SD MS SDHC" on the following URL...

Hope this helps..Pls let me know if you need more info..

I have a brookstone photo scanner can't install on my macbook air because there is no disc drive

Open PREVIEW (in applications) and from the "FILE" menu select "IMPORT FROM SCANNER" see if your scanner appears in the list. If not, try to add the new scanner in your SYSTEM PREFERENCES PRINTERS & SCANNERS by clicking the PLUS below the printer and scanners list. It should see your scanner as long as it is plugged in and powered up. Use the drivers available such as "Generic Scanner". Once added, go to the PREVIEW application once again and try to import from scanner. PREVIEW has it's own scanning tools and as long as it can see your scanner it should be able to run it even without your software. If all else fails go online and see if you can download the scanner software from the manufacturer's website.

My macbook pro recognized my JVC JY HD10U but won't recognize the image from the screen in order to import what I've filmed.

I am not sure what software you are trying to use, but if you are using quicktime for example to import your footage it should be very easy. Once you connect the camera in playback mode to your macbook with a firewire cable open up quicktime then go to file-> New Movie recording. From there it should see a camera connected but no video. Hit the record button and then start playback on the camera. You should then see the video start to record onto the mac. Let the entire video play though and when it is done hit stop and you have you files! You can now use those in virtually any video editing software!
Hope that helps!
