the white powdery stuff is minerals, use a vinegar solution to warm water 1 part vinegar to 4 parts warm water. let it soak in the humidifier overnite or during the day and rinse with warm water. You could also use clr using bottle directions.

Howdy, It could be from impurities in the water. If it seems to be mineral, I would not be concerned unless it it appears to be impairing the function of the vaporizer. It is also possibly some form of residue from the manufacturing process. Try a round of distilled water and see if it still leaves grit, this will help you to determine the source.
