The whole stove exploded while preparing dinner. Please any idea what would cause this to happen. My husband was slightly injured. Glass was flying everywhere. The cook top is 10 years old and we purchased it at Home Expo.

It sounds like you got a dead short under the glass top , it could be a wire that shorted or some type of bug that got into the elements , I would even open the top with out pulling the plug out of the wall ,if it is 10 years old mite not be worth fixing but it should be looked at before you decide Frank

What happens when you turn on the pilot light on a Capital Gas Cooktop and cook with it on

you have just triggered an exothermic reaction of light hydrocarbons and oxygen as a result of introducing an external heat source trigger. Which could possibly result in the cooking of some dinner. Yum.
No worries Barbara, you have done no damage. Unless dinner burned....

Ceramic glass hob

One of the things that can cause a glass cooktop to crack and pit is having sugar spill on it while it is hot. You can still use it. Also they are expensive to replace. In some cases a new stove is cheaper.

Roden Gas glass stovetop shattered MODEL GC73H

I have come across this occurence twice before.
With glass stove tops the glass is toughened and can generally withstand most temperatures associated with normal cooking situations. This, of course, assumes that there is sufficient space beneath the cooking utensil (saucepan, frying pan, etc) for air to circulate and the build up of heat to dissipate. If this cannot take place heat will build up to the point that the glass - a refractory material will no longer be able to withstand the internal and external forces created by the differences in internal and external temperatures and will thus shatter.
Though this is generally rare, it is known to take place and users are warned. Incidentally, this is the reason the shape of the glass top is the way it is and not the usual square as with other tops, in order for the heat to dissipate more easily.
In short, you should insist to your landlord that you were not misusing the appliance, but through genuine use this somewhat rare event occurred.

I need a new glass top for my stove that has shattered. Can you help me find one for a reasonable price? I have found many for $200.00 and Im thinking I should just buy a whole new stove for that price....

much better to buy a new one compare to replace it,coz its so very expensive or buy an electric hot plate more cheaper & practical compare to glass hob.

Ceramic glass stove is cracked

HI
You should be able to replace the top only.
Normally if this is your fault, it is not covered by warranty. Normally this would be if you dropped something onto it. This would leave like a star shap series of cracks.
If its down to manufacture, this should be covered under warranty. This damage normally looks like just one long crack, no impact mark.
Check with the manufacturer

Profile gas on glass cooktop

Hello mkerfoot, I know the feeling. The same complaint I hear about on SS. I just sink type dish washing detergent to clean the grease off and a paper towel with vinegar water solution. For heavy staining on the burner area, apply the dw detergent full strenght and let it sit to loosen the debre. Hope this helps.

My Magig Chef Glass Rangetop

This part can cost over $400. It is usually not worth fixing. NEVER operate the stove with a cracked top. This is tempered glass and it can just explode! It is also a dangerous electrical issue. Liquid can drip down through the crack and contact the live open element.

No heat

You probably still have cartridge fuses in your fusebox. This sounds like only one blew. This will let the lights and other 110 volt things work just fine. If you have circuit breakers it probably needs to be replaced. There are no internal fuses that involve the whole stove.
