I just got a usb chord that plugs into my PV-DV52D camcorder. when I plug it into my computer in recognizes that something has been plugged in, but it doesn't recognize it as a camcorder. I tried using premiere elements to capture the video, but that doesn't work either. What do I need to do to import the video onto my computer?

I take it that your macbook pro has imovie on it. If you open up imovie and plug in your camcorder it should recognise the camcorder and give you access to putting the movie onto your mac. Have a look at http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/ it should help.
I have a Panasonic PV-GS9 mini DV Camcorder that is not recognized on my computer. I have windows Vista and I have it plugged in via my USB port but it doesn't recognize it and I do not have the disc. Please help me I have to put this recording in AVI format now.
ok i hope you have a windows computer or at least you somehow got windows movie maker on a mac. go to capture video in windows movie maker and then capture it!
You may use different USB ports. Make sure your computer USB is v2.0 Computer's Bios and Chipset update could be a possible solution. You may also try Firewire/1394 Connection which is more reliable and faster for video editing and conversion.
Usually in professional use hook up the Camcorder directly to the computer is not very preferred, Using DV converters are more common such as Canopus products as you can find them on www.canopus.com
Just got a trutech. I have tried plugging the usb in on several computers and each time I get the same message that windows does not recognize the device. I have tried changing usb chords as well.
Hi, I had the same problem and found it was an issue with my non- licensed Microsoft XP software. I bought a new copy of XP and the camera was located without issue.
It sounds like you're plugging the camcorder in via USB. Your PC is looking for a flash memory card (SD card on the GS300), which is used on that camcoder for still photos only.
If you want to transfer video from the camcorder, you need to use the Firewire port. DV camcorders do not transferr video via USB (some of the "computer" style camcorders, including most flash, DVD and HDD camcorders, can use USB for file transfers).
Haskel, Have you tried a different USB wire? Constantly remove of the cord can wear down the contacts/something is on the contacts?
Check that I'll get back to you if I find anything relevant.
Good Luck,
Tim
