I had a similar issue with my ASUS. Try finding a program on your computer other than the Control Panel that controls the trackpad. For instance mine is Elan Smart-Pad. Usually working with some of the configurations in the program reinitialize the trackpad. If that doesn't work make sure that it isn't turned of due to keyboard interference (hitting a button that turns the trackpad off). Hopefully that isn't the case though.

My touchpad stopped working on my acer chromebook 15 after installing windows 10

Attach an external mouse. Most Laptops will allow you to connect and external USB mouse.

  • Click/tap the Start button, search for Device Manager, and select it from the list of results. Under Mice and other pointing devices, select your touchpad, open it, select the Driver tab, and select Update Driver. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, look for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

  • If those steps didn't work, try uninstalling your touchpad driver: open Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) the touchpad driver, and select Uninstall. Restart your device and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

  • If that didn't work, try using the generic driver that comes with Windows. Here's how: in Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) your touchpad driver > Update driver software... > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, select HID compliant mouse, select Next, and follow the instructions to install it.

  • If changing your driver doesn't help, there may be a problem with the touchpad itself. Contact your PC's manufacturer for help.

    Mousepad not working

    Hello,

Each Touchbad should have basic functionality by default in every Operating system, letting it be used even when no driver is installed. However, try pressing FN and F7 together and see if the touchpad works again. Some people accidently press this FN + F7 key when they mute the sound with the FN + F8 key.

The FN + F7 is there to disable/enable the touchpad as some people use a USB mouse instead of the touchpad.

If you still need the drivers, here are the download links. Please choose desired driver by Operating system and Touchpad brand...

My R3000 touchpad would not scrolll or allow double-tap. I downloaded the synaptics driver, not the ALPS driver on Compaq's site, and it works perfectly now.

How do you adjust the sensitivity of an ALPS pointing device touch pad with VISTA.

You may very well find you ALPS driver installed on the laptop in question doesn't have a sensitivity setting.

In that case you can try locating this driver:
    ALPS Touchpad Driver 7.2.302.105
I know it can be found on "www.softpedia.com".

Installing it may resolve your problem as it updates the lack of sensitivity settings in older ALPS drivers for touchpads that have the capability to discern the level of pressure being applied to them.

The "mouse" pad on my Acer Aspire 5920 laptop has suddenly stopped working. What can I do to mend it

You can try pressing the Fn + F7 key to activate it, if that does not help you can check in the BIOS if the touchpad is disabled.

Touchpad nor external mouse will work on my acer aspire 1640z

control panel > device manager > scroll down to mice and pointing devices > if touchpad is listed (may be symantic or alps} highlight and click uninstall. Reboot the laptop, windows will be forced to reload the drivers when it recognizes the device. It may ask you if it can search windows update for a fresh driver, allow it to complete the install. reboot

I am using a HP Pavilion dv4-1242tx. While using my touch-pad,I have to press 3 times to click on an item.. Why is this so? This is very very irritating..

The issue could be with the corrupted touchpad drivers.
I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall touchpad drivers.
Press Windows key and R key simultaenously.
Type devmgmt.msc in Run window and click on OK.
Expand Mice and other pointed devices.
Right click on your Touchpad Synaptics or Alps and select Uninstall.
Also Update your driver after reinstalling them.

Dell Inspiron 6000 Alps Touchpad not working

Try unistalling the touchpad driver, and reboot. The machine will find the touchpad and reinstall the driver automatically. These have a tenancy to glitch when using an external mouse, and this should clear it up. Let me know.
