Re: My 2000 impala will not start. I've had my starter,...
I had a Nissan doing this to me a little while ago, but couldn't figure out the problem. A couple weeks later, the lady told me she took the car to a shop and they replaced the crank and cam sensors. My bet is that it was the crank sensor.
> "air compressor pump" Are you sure this is what he told you? Some cars were (I don't think yours is old enough though) equipped with an 'air pump' that was part of the emissions system but if it failed, you might never know it since it supplied pulsed air to the exhaust manifold to burn unused fuel leaving the engine. Also, if your car is equipped with a 'blower' -air compressor, it is pushing air into the intake manifold and if not 'spinning' it would cause loss of power but the engine would still start and run. There is no such thing as a standard 'air compressor pump. With all that has been supposedly replaced, I would be looking at my 'mechanic' with some suspicion.
