I bought this model, and a year and a week later the drive crashed. After arguing, Gateway replaced the HD. One year later, it crashed again. I was getting BlueScreen Of Death dumps each turnoff. Finally once it refused to turn back on. With this history, I am assuming it is the HD again. I was working Vista HP w/ svc pak1. Percentages say I simply replace the HD, put Vista back in, and move on, right?

Try reinstalling vista again first to avoid another drive. Could be just a conflicting driver issue or deleted dll or something altered by a program or malware/virus and even virus protectors do their job too well and remove certain files that maybe a virus was attached to.

Yeah, the blue screen of death usually means there's a hard drive issue. A new drive and a Windows install should do the trick. Here's a link to a great site that sells hard drives (http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=15&name=Hard-Drives) I hope this helps!

Hit a deer and it threw off my harmonic balancer.I got the harmonic balancer replaced. Week or so later the harmonic balancer started wobbling again and it will barely stay running

Depending on your speed at the time of the crash and the weight of the animal and the amount of driving that you did after the crash, the crank shaft bearings might be bad.

I have an 830GM and am suspicious of a hard drive crash or a motherboard failure and was wondering how to diagnose?

try replacing or swapping the hard drive with another machine and see if it happens again and on which machine if both machine's crash both MB and HD could be bad, If your machine with different HD works fine then it most likely was the HD If not then the MB might be at fault

Hard drive crash

if your HD cannot be detected anymore..then there would be 90% chance that your data's cannot be retrieve. however, if it is still functional as a secondary drive but the partition is damage..try using FileScanvenger to retrieve the data.
