Have you tried booting into safe mode and seeing if the problem persists? If it can be detected in safe mode, then there is a possibility your USB drivers are corrupted, and will need a re-install. To do this, remove all USB devices from ports, disable USB in your Start/Settings/Control panel/System, and reboot. Windows will then detect them at boot, and install the drivers needed to get them back up and running again.
Hope that helped.

Another possible solution is to try a linux boot cd. I had the same issues you had with an old 2GB mp3 a while back; Winblows not recognizing it etc, so I booted up a Linux distro, and formatted it that way.
If the drive is any good, linux should *possibly* help you out.
They make some pretty good linux distros these days, and most of them are free to download.
Hope you get it to work.
Cheers

Thanks, I will give it a try none of this would have mattered had I not accidently deleted all my Music! that "not regonised" has been coming up for a long time but it still charges the Battery.
Had I trid to add or delete a song, i would have then found out something was wrong...
btw, I'm also from NZ! Thanks Mike.
I tried what you said it didn't work... I have tried the MP3 player of 3 different Computers none of them recognize it...Time for a new MP3 Player Thanks anyway Mike.
