I am installing a bathroom vent fan with fan motor, nite lite, and 2 compact fluorescent room lights. The room already has fluorescent tubes over the vanity. I am looking at the Leviton 1755 to operate everything independently but the fan motor, which I will put on a timer. I just discovered that the installation document from Leviton contains a notation I have not seen elsewhere "incandescent only". Is this true? Why? It also recommends installing the 3-gang switch in a double-gang wall box, which seems to defeat some of the space-saving advantage of this product. Is this also necessary?

Thanks for the info - I learned something, and will not be using this switch. Curious to know why they don't want it used with CFLs and LEDs, though. I do intend to stick with the code, for the reasons you cited. That's why I'm paying the county as much in permit fees as the material for the project costs .......:-(

Yes, the device likely has electronic switching using Triacs. These cannot be used for devices that use magnetics or other non-resistive devices. Fluorescent and motors are in this category and MOST CFL lights. The magnetic devices keep the current flowing due to the inductive properties so the controlling device never sees the current go to zero to turn off for next cycle, hence they lock for the whole cycle and are locked on. Some of the controlling devices can be damaged due to transients from the inductive spikes.

Hello sam. the incandescent only notation is there so that you do not use it with fluorescent or the newer compact fluorescent or LED bulbs. The reason for the double-gang wall box is the wiriing code. you aren't supposed to have more than 4 wires in a single-gang box. Often, the double-gang box is used with a single cover plate top plate. Please do follow the electrical code as not doing so can be a hazard and can void your fire insurance. Joe

I recently installed a lutron skylark dimmer w compatible gu24 bulbs on a 3 way connection. Everything works properly but the bulbs only dim slightly, is this normal or is something defective or improperly...

Are you using compact fluorescent? Are you sure you purchased a dimmer that is for incondescent lighting only? fluorescent lighting only? Fan motor control only? Are your lights led? I read on the instructions for one company that you can only use one dimmer on any one 3 way system. Did you put 2 dimmers on a 3 way system?

I installed a fan and it works good but the light

Is it a standard incandescent bulb or is it a compact fluorescent light? If it has a remote with a dimmer you shouldn't use a compact fluorescent bulb as they are not dimmable. CFLs may be damaged or damage a dimmer if they are used together.

Our new bathroom fan is not clearing the room the ceiling is wet and the paint peeling the fan is model #FV-LP003

I use to be a chimney sweep. One of my jobs was to clean vents for dryers and bath vents. What could be your problem is that you have a bird nest in the vent system. It sounds to me that you have a vent on the roof for the fan. A bird could have damaged the cap to gain entrance and built a nest. With the cap gone, rain can come in. With the nest, it will not vent out the room. You could call your local chimney sweep company and they will clean it for you. Or if you are capable, Lowe's or Home Depot sell dryer vent cleaning rods. They are sturdy but flexible rods with a 4" brush on the end. Two other handy tools will be a high power shop vac to **** out anything from inside the vent, and a high power blower that has vacuum capability to use out side the house. Cafe full though, if it pulls out a nest, it will shoot it out with great force.

Combo lite/vent fan/nite light affected by heat?

There's probably a thermal switch in the fixture which turns the fan on when the lights are on for a period of time and heat accumulates in the fixture. It sound like the heat from the attic is setting off the thermal switch. When the attic heat drops, the fixture works correctly.

This is a catch 22 situation, because if the upper housing in the attic is insulated from the attic heat, the insulation will prevent heat dissipation from the heat generated by the fixture's light bulbs. So, for safety reasons, the upper housing should not be insulated.
I'll need to work on this to come up with a fix.

New bathroom venting in basement bathroom.

Install a window mounted exhaust fan if you can discharge to the outside of the house surrounding atmosphere. But undercut the door of the batroom to allow air coming in into the room.Alternatively firt a door grill 600 x 150 mm size which is more expensive.THe size of the fan should be 50 to 100 l/s of air flow.

Installation of a Panasonic Fan FV-05VFL2...

If you are not very handy I don't think I'd tackle this project. There's going to be drywall cutting, backing to install, attic crawling, wiring, ducting to attach, proper insulating. As an electrician I've done this sort of thing in between 1 and 2 hours, depending on how smooth things go. If you find somebody you trust that's done it before who is willing do to it on the side for cash you're looking at $25-$60 for labor. Is it worth it to you?

Fluorescent light that keeps flickering

The ballast is a device that utilises and expanding/contracting electromagnetic field to create the high voltage which is needed to run fluorescent lights.

It is normally found behind the front cover or reflector part of the fitting and looks like a small box.

Replacement should normally be done by a person qualified in this field.
