Question about Watches

1 Answer

We have a Carriage watch by Timex that's my mom's (she's in a nursing home). The watch wasn't keeping time so my brother replaced the battery. It was running fine, now it's lost time. I see the second hand moves forward, then moves backwards (weird) Can it be saved

A second hand that pulses but does not advance usually indicates one of two problems: (1) a weak battery that provides insufficient power to the tiny motor that advances the second hand; or (2) a bit of dust or grit somewhere in the watch's gear train that is jamming up the works.
Try testing or replacing the battery. If that doesn't work, some watchmakers can try to blow out (using very gentle air puffs, not cans of compressed air) the watch movement and/or put it on a special machine to try to unjam the gears. It is usually does not make economic sense to perform further repairs on a watch of this price range, though it is also possible to replace the entire movement.

I have a two year old timex indigo which the green light feature no longer works. The stem no longer presses down. Any suggestions will be appretiated.

Hello Pat Trevino,

My best suggestion is to send (or take) your watch
to your NEAREST TIMEX authorized service center.
(see Returns below: Contacts: address & phones)

The FIRST watch I ever bought for myself is the TIMEX Automatic... Still keeps good time after 51+ years
(certainly better than I do)...

Since then I have gathered a few more watches,
chronometers & chronographs.

Takes a licking & keeps on ticking (John Cameron Swayze)

Manual for Timex Reef Gear H2Y023

I have a Timex Reef Gear watch...can't find a model number anywhere. (The watch back has the 3 digit code 940, one they don't list on the Timex site).

My watch has two stems to adjust the time, day, date, etc. On mine, you turn the top stem until what you want to adjust appears in the digital window, then you pull out the stem one click to adjust.

Battery replace lights up but does not keep time

This could be a problem w/the movement (not the battery). Timex's warranty covers the movement, so I would find the receipt and call Timex about this problem (they generally need info off of your receipt unless you have already registered your warranty). They will be able to fix it for you.
