OK! Don't panic! Nowadays, the formatting process will not actually erase the contained data on a memory card or hard drive. The data is still there and only becomes invisible. That's why one always has chances to get back their lost data back from a formatted hard drive as long as it is not overwritten by anything new.
So, I hope you've not saved anything new on your hard drive.
Download a formatted drive data recovery freeware that can easily restore your wanted data back from this formatted drive for free:
http://www.4cardrecovery.com/
In fact, I find it as my camera memory card is also accidentally formatted. It eventually restores all my needed photos, videos and files back successfully. So, it can be a good chance for you.
Just read more detailed information of this freeware here:
http://sd-card-format-recovery.blogspot.com/2013/11/recover-sd-card-after-formatting.html
PS: Do not forget to back up everything important well in the future.

OK! The bad sector is always the terrible killer of memory card/hard drive data. Therefore, if you are sure there are some bad sectors, part or even all of your original data may be gone already. That often depends on how badly your drive is damaged.
But, that's not to say, you have no any hope to get back your back. In fact, as long as they are not completely killed, you do have possibilities to restore them back.
Simply go try a formatted hard drive data recovery freeware that always can help easily restore all inaccessible data back completely from a formatted drive:
http://www.formatrecovery.blogspot.com/2013/02/recover-data-after-formatting.html

It has offered a special "Format Recovery" mode for you to process your formatted drive data recovery problem.
Note: Next time, you'd better never format your drive or memory card without any data backup.

Well you should have gone in and marked the sectors that you think are bad, by formatting it odds are you wiped the data off it, you can try a low level recover but I dont think your going to find much. Sorry format means format.

External hdd converted to RAW not readable

You will lose all data on this disk using this solution. That is your warning. You did not provide the OS that you are running, so I will assume it is something in the Windows family. Open disk manager and select the external hd. Delete the partitions. Create one large new partition. Format said partition using appropriate filesysetm. If formatting hangs or fails, try it on another machine. If it fails, you could try diagnostics that came with the disk. However, if it fails on two separate machine, I would us it for target practice and get a new one.

Iomega 80GB external HDD not read because of I/O errors. This occurred after the drive was checked for volume errors

Try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this file recovery program called asoftech data recovery to recover your files. download it from

I have transcend 640gb USB3 external hard drive when i copying files on it, the computer hanged and after restart there is no files on external hard drive and also it's free space decreased. what is...

Check files are present on the hard disk by using ubuntu live cd.If there are no files present u will have to format the hdd.

If you loose data while formatting u can recover it by using tuneup utilities or any free recovering software. But before recovering do not copy/write/overwrite/edit anything on the hdd.

Hope this helps.

Seagate FreeAgent External 500GB HDD - Data Recovery

well firstly if u wana recover ur data u have to make the external hdd power up but thats the major area of issue that its not powering up. the difference in plug doesnt make a difference cuz u can use the same plug, the voltage is same thorugh out in ur place from the substation. so it might be a possibility that when u connected ur hdd,the power ON/OFF switch was awredy ON IF hdd has one. so wat i feel is dat u can try opening the hdd and then connect the hdd to ur desktop with help of the BUS CABLE used to connect the HDDs in desktops. so in dat case i would suggest that u go through the manual of ur external hdd to see how to access the the casing in which the hdd is there.then if u happen to get thorugh n it turns on then u dont have to recover ur data. it would still be there. HOWEVER,its recommended that u dont try these things personaaly if u are'nt too tech savy. u shud consult a tech or a freind who knows abt this.
