My VLC media player won't play dvds correctly (however it plays downloaded video fine). Video seems to be playling fine, but the audio is kinda choppy when watching a dvd. It used to play great. Additionally My Windows Media Player updated and now it won't play dvds either (downloaded video also plays fine). it's error message is; Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer. It also used to work. If I could just get one to work i'd be happy. Thanks!

You can download other free DVD programs on your computer. Windows Media Player is a video player and not a DVD player, not to mention playing protected DVD. So you need to get a DVD player program to open and play DVD. You can try Leawo Blu-ray Player

It seems you don't have any codecs... The problem is not in windows media player.
Just install a codec pack like http://www.free-codecs.com/download/codec_pack_all_in_1.htm

Will not play dvds

LOL, wow that's an oddity, normally it's the other way around where it plays store bought but not burned. Make sure you are not trying to play Blue Ray in a Regular DvD Player.

Oh, one more real important point. If you're using Windows Media Player as the player, that might be your problem. Media Player cannot handle all types of media devices and sometimes they don't give you a message saying anything because it just don't recognize a disc is even in the drive.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type "Download VLC Player" (without the quotes). Look for the site www.videolan.org/vlc in the search results and click it. That's where you want to download it from. VLC is an open source player that will play any type of video format. It is far greater than Windows Media Player. It installs in less than 3 minutes and it is fast and smooth. You'll love it. After you install it put your cd in the drive and you will probably be prompted as to which player to play it with. Click VLC. If VLC is not shown as one of the listed players chose the option to browse to chose it. Now after all this, if you still can't play the dvd, then your drive is faulty.

Downloaded video does not play in any media player

Hi there, Have you tried using VLC player? http://gofree.com/download/Video/Media-Players/vlcmediaplayer.php?gclid=CO6F9b62l6kCFcK8KgodrnOGvw VLC will play almost any video. If VLC doesn't it may be safe to say your video is corrupted. Alex

Unable to play video clips or avi file on media player 11

You need to play these files on VLC or in Media Player Classic. You can play almost any media file through them.
If you don't have any then you can download VLC media player from the following links:
for windows os zip file 16mb: http://videolan.cdn.cacheboy.net/vlc/0.9.9/win32/vlc-0.9.9-win32.exe
windows 26mb:http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/videolan/vlc/0.9.9/win32/vlc-0.9.9-win32.zip

& for mac 19mb: http://mirror.leaseweb.com/pub/software/videolan/vlc/0.9.9a/macosx/vlc-0.9.9a-intel.dmg

And if you want media player classic here is a link to download it: http://mirror01.x264.nl/x264/mpc2kxp6490.zip (212mb)

If these players cant play your files then might not have given enough time to download your torrent or must have downloaded corrupt file.

Audio CD s fine. DVDs picture only.

Hi Sir,
The problem is with the codec that is require to play sound. You can resolve this by playing your DVD in another player like VLC media player or you will have to install the latest codec pack which supports major Audio and Video formats.

Following are the links to download both the VLC media player and K-Lite mega codec pack-
Download any one of them and install on your system.I am pretty sure this will resolve your problem.
