When the cord moves in the socket ball the iron will go off. You can move the cord around to get the iron to come on but it will not stay on.

Remove the two screws on the back of the iron, for these you will need a special tamper resistance screw driver, or do what I did, use a very fine needle nose pliers and unscrew both, remove the gray translucent cover and pull the white cover from the top (close to the power cord) as soon as you remove it you will have access to the wiring, notice that from the two leads of the cord, one is tied up to one black wire and the other to two white wires, cut the wires as close as you can to the wire nut and remove the cord, then you have two options, get a new cord installed or cut 3 to 5 inches of cord and reconnect.

Iron will not stay on

More than likely your power cord has a broken wire. Plug the iron in and mover the cord around. See if you can find the broken wire. Typically where the cord comes out of the iron and right at the plug. Or replace the whole cord. Your local hardware store, youtube, or menards can show you how. Very easy to do. I tend to stay away from home depot.

Rowenta Iron-Professional Luxe The power cord seems to short out when you move iron. You can wiggle it next to the movable ball and it clicks on and off. The two screw heads on bottom appear to be special...

I drilled out the nubs in the center of the screws. removed the screws, and took off the back plate. The problem is that the cord seems to be abraiding when it swivels, and eventually wears thru. It seems like a fire hazard and should be looked into by Rowena. Anyway, I cut out the damaged cord and reattached it. Problem fixed..

Iron won't stay running. I'm pretty sure it's the cord because if you move the cord the power is restored. Would a new cord solve the problem and where do you get a new cord?

With modern iron it can be difficult to renew the cord due to the special screws they use when making them. It does sound like the power cord is damaged. It may be cheaper to buy a new one from wallmart or similar store.

Power won't come on

You have a short in the cord. If you knew where the short was, you could possibly repair it. However, I would strongly suggest buying a new iron. An iron is an appliance that can burn your house down even when it's in GOOD working order. You should be able to buy a decent iron for around $30, and I would say the peace of mind alone would be worth it. Hope this helps,
