My 40 inch Sony Bravia television will not change channels. I have tried the remote and the buttons on the television itself, but it will not change. It is on channel 2 and I need it to be on channel 3 to even watch television.

Maybe there has been a disconnect with the TV recognizing the code of the remotes? Or, maybe you pressed a button on the remote that will not allow it to change the channels. I've done this in the past where I accidentally pressed, say the TV or DVD button, and when I turned the TV on and tried to tune in channels, the TV would not respond. Pressing the cable button (but that is on my remote) returned the remote to its ability to change the channels. You will just have to do trial n' error.
Hi, have you tried pressing the TV button that is under the On/Off button on top right hand side of remote control? Some times its possible to accidently press the DVD or VCR controls and this by-passes the TV as a remote? Another cause can be a poor or low battery in the remote itself. If you have no luck let me know & we can try some more things, however, I have heard that The On/Off Switch on the TV can be a problem. Goodluck, Jon..
I have had similar experiences. I have a VCR sitting near the television. I found that if I keep the VCR turned on then the TV stops changing channels by itself. If the VCR is turned off, then it starts again. Weird, but it worked for some reason.
The easiest way to find a factory remote is to search the internet by using the model number and the word "remote". You find better prices that way. :)
Does remote change volume level or can open Menu in TV? If yes, then its specifically channels buttons that do not work in remote and new remote would work.
