I have a Lionel War bonnet Diesel w/ rail sounds #621973. The train ran off the table & now the rail sounds don't work completely. When you put the train in motion, the diesel sound doesn't increase & when slowing down, you don't hear the brakes. I also have a problem running this train across the 042 switches. It arcs when crossing & shuts down & then restarts.

From the impact of the train when it hit the ground, it has probably damaged the sound system beyond repair. There are multiple problems that could've occurred, such as the wires breaking/loosening, or the sound box could have broken. There isn't a realistic way to fix this, really.

Even though it may not have been your fault, you should try to prevent things like this from happening in the future.

As to the 042 switches, this is likely the same problem. You can order replacement switches online to test them and make sure for relatively cheap, however.

There is hope for you, however. Go to the link below to go to Lionel's customer service page. There, you can find replacement parts and service stations that can replace/repair your train for you, for a small price compared to the value of the train itself. Good luck getting it fixed!

I have the wonderland express train won't go around can it be fixed

Yes, but before I took the set to a model train dealer I would check the basics. Depending how the unit is stored I would assume that corrosion(oxide) has built up between the electrical components.

This is so common that it can be assumed to be a normal maintenance activity.

The connections from the power to the track, between the tracks and between the engine wheels and the track.

Setting up on a table top allows for convenient troubleshooting.
A voltmeter provides a good tool for efficient analysis of the electrical circuit.

Using a soft cloth rub/polish the rails to eliminate oxide/grime built up.
Use an eraser to scrub the connections between the rails,

I've included several links to provide you with examples of problems and solutions.

Merry Christmas

Hope this helps?

How do I connect the Lionel #76 warning bell & shack?

Lionel#76 accessory is a pre-war item, so instructions for it are scarce. I suggest you read pages 12 - 26 of the attached pdf and hook up the #76 following the directions for one of the automatic signals.

Lionel train problems

Make sure the A or D terminal is connected to the center rail. U terminal to the outer rail. First do this without the sound activation button. Horn should sound this way. Once this works correctly, add the sound button in on the center rail lead (A or D) If the sound activation button activates the horn, reverse the connections to the sound activation button.
This should solve your difficulties

I am using a standard 80 watt transformer (not command control), but the rail sounds do not work on this unit at all. I have checked the on/off switch and played with the volume, but still no sounds. At...

Many of the MTH Protosounds 1 and 2 and Trainmaster will not work with the Lionel CW-80 electronic power source. The output waveform is so non-like sinusoidal. The electronic sound systems will not usually respond to this waveform and when they do, the sound will be garbled. Use another power source.

If sounds like something is wrong with circuit board that controls direction. If it is new it should still under warranty. Find a decent repair shop from Lionel and bring it in.

Runs only in reverse i have other pre war 1681e does the same

Have you changed transformers? You can also make a Lionel run in opposite direction by using the throttle control...just go to stop and then to power and then back to no stop and right to power. That often works.
