Which fatal error do you have. If you have a 49 error, you can check my tips on resolving 49 errors. If you have a different error, please post back with the exact error code and I can provide guidance on that.

First see the scaner moving or not just power on the printer & see the movement if it stucks then problem with scaner this printer should be under warrenty pl call the service engr from hp /change the flatbed scaner.ur problem may be resolved.

Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.

Hi, Take the printer off the
network. (Remove the network cable) Then enter the menu and select network
menu. You want to change the settings as described below: Change the Hublink
Setting to "100 base tx full" Change the FTP Setting
to "Disable" Once done and machine
says online, shut it off, reattach the network cable and restart the printer. You may also want to
change the printer's IP address. If this does not help,
or you cannot get past the 002 fatal error then the machine will require
service.
this error can be caused by a new or existing PC on your network. EXAMPLE: the network settings on new DELL pc's are default set to control the network and repair any conflicts..it seems dells dont like Ilumina's, and they get this error code.
Disable the network control function in the DELL settings.
And this error will not re appear until another dell is installed.
I too am having this problem, I suspect it started after installing our new FIOS router, so it could be network related. It's possible the number could be referencing an internal memory number.
