You will need to replace the dryer belt. To do this follow the instructions below

  • Disconnect the power for your dryer before beginning any work. It can be disconnected from the wall outlet.

  • 2

Open the top of your dryer cabinet and tilt it backward.

  • 3

Use a Phillips head screwdriver remove the top two screws. Put the screws in a safe place.

  • 4

Tilt the front forward and roll the belt around the drum.

  • 5

Remove the old belt by lifting the drum slightly in order to give way to the front supports. You may have to open the dryer door to help the belt fall to the bottom of the basket.

  • 6

Position the new belt by aligning it in the correct position before beginning to thread it through the motor pulley and idler. It will take someone with strong fingers and skinny arms to be able to get past the drum in the front. The dryer belt in a General Electric dryer has to be threaded looking in from the back.

  • 7

Reassemble your dryer by replacing the screws in the top of your dryer.

  • 8

Close the top and slide the dryer back against the wall.

  • 9

Reconnect the power to your dryer by plugging the cord back into the wall outlet.

My GE DBXR463EBOCC dryer squells through the entire cycle. Any suggestions?

Its either the belt which you can put some belt dressing on it same that you would use on cars or it is the bearings in which case would be a pain the ****.

Dryer starts squelling and cuts off after a few seconds. checked the belt and it seems fine

the squelling you are hearing are the bearings on the motor. The only way to fix the problem is to replace the motor. The part number on the motor is 279827 and price is around $105

Maytag dryer - makes squelling noise when you turn it on

Your glides are getting thin. Not unlike that of shoes on an automobile the glide will wear down and start the old metal to metal screaching.
Get the front off and get the drum out. Remove the glides and replace them. Or flip them over if you are

    Dryer squelles

the sound is thr support rollers or the idler pully, the support rollers located under the drum to the back the pully holds the belt tight. look for meatle shavings or rust dust on rollers.
