Dell poweredge t110 Raid 5 setup on PERC 100 raid config in bios stating Virtual drive degraded and drive 2 is in ready state...how do we remove from drive array and install a new on without data loss

what disk?
no raid card stated, no array stated, no type of array stated.
One can put 100s of RAID cards in this server.
both raid cards or HBA cards,(forJBOD)
i can fix any server, but first need to know what is in the box first
you meant the boot disk has errors, right,? boot.
that would tell me the disk IS BAD.
but if and ARRAY , that means you must run SMART tests
on the disks, 1 by 1 to find the bad disk.
if smart shows its bad, or weak its for sure BAD.
on real servers. the server sends you email, (set up right)
telling you disk 3 in a RAID 6 is bad, replace it now.

are you running hardware or software raid, or HBA or
fake raid cards, (4 classes there.!)

the base system new has.
4 port SAS 5/i integrated SAS controller (no RAID_
and optional, from DELL , news.
Optional PERC 5/i integrated SAS/SATA daughtercard controller with 256MB cache,
PERC 4e/DC, PERC 5/e adapter

or any of 1000s of other aftermarket cards there.
I run LSI 9361s (with MSM appl loaded)
this card will tell you what disk failed every time no kidding.
so will the PERCs setup correctly
the PERCs and my LSI and my HP raids
all have installed monitors for the RAID ,a program that runs full time all the time, and reports errors , many ways,
did you load that first and use it? seems not.
as no mention of SMART at all.

Then you need to get into the BIOS of the PERC RAID controller and inspect the state of the physical/logical volumes. Reboot the machine and watch for the prompt after the PERC5/6 RAID controller loads it's BIOS.

Considering this a null issue given the age, though...

Assuming this is still an issue...old as it is...

You need to boot the server and press the correct prompt to enter the BIOS of your PERC RAID controller. There you need to manage your physical/logical volumes.

Chances are that either you had a drive failure or the metadata on your RAID volume (JBOD?) was corrupted. This is a common issue with these LSI-based PERC[5-6]i RAID controllers that Dell utilized.

Even if the scan says all ok I suspect bad sectors. To confirm try making images of the drives.

If you are able to get good images you can try raid reconstruction software.

RAID menu will either be CTRL-A (if you are using the onboard PERC 3/Di) or CTRL-M (if you are using an addin PERC 3/4). If you are not seeing either of these options, then you may not have it enabled in the BIOS. In the BIOS (F2), go to Integrated Devices and make sure that RAID is Enabled. In order to enable RAID, your server MUST have a RAID key, RAID memory DIMM (different from system memory), and a RAID battery.

Sounds like the RAID controller has failed. I would replace this first as RAID controllers are less expensive than replacing the system board, or the server as a whole.

Suggested: PERC 5i (RAID 0/1/5) or PERC 5iR (RAID 1 or 0 only)

Revert back to original configuration of hdd in your RAID setup. Boot to SCIS BIOS and double check functionality of hard drives. The error is probably telling you that Disk1 is degraded because disk 0 is failing and you removed the wrong hard drive.

The Perc RAID controller in a 2600 doesn't support RAID 4.
You can do RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 5.

With 3 HDD's your best bet would be a RAID 5.

Mirroring is RAID 1 (which would only use 2 of the drives)

HI thanks for reply. i must say im new to this raid stuff. i was given the server by my coworker because he could not get the other drive to show in windows. he got fustrated and gave it to me. so i tey at home. ok here is what i have.

Dell poweredge 1600sc. it has two gig ram. I open the case andther it has one primary hdd and four other hdd connected on one ribbon to the board. it had windows server 2003 all ready on it. I was in the set up (ctrl +m) and i saw the drives say ready. i hit the space bar to set array. after i did that it say i had to initlize it before i reboot. now the drives say online. i boot into windows and the drives are still do not show. am i looking in the right place. i know. im stupid. go ahead and laugh.

Besides standard beeps codes indicating Processor, CPU, Memory or Systemboard failures,
Dell PERC (PowerEdge Expandable Raid Controller) or SAS Controllers (Serial Attached SCSI) generate beeps to alert failures on the RAID sub-system.

From your description of the issues (when the beeps start), i suggest you check PERC or SAS setup. If you have Dell OpenManage Server Administrator installed, you can log-in and check for more information. Additionally, on the next reboot check the PERC/SAS/CERC boot up for any messages. You may also access the PERC (Ctrl+M), SAS (Ctrl+R) CERC (Ctrl+A) Management Menu for specific failures and attempt a rebuild (assuming you have a redundant RAID Volume).

You can also speak with Dell Support and raise a warranty call if the system has warranty.

Note: PowerEdge 840 would ship with PERC or SAS Controller. PowerEdge 700 will ship with PERC or CERC.
