All of the sudden our maytag range flashed an "F 1" on the display and when we opened the oven the broiler coil was red hot and we were baking biscuits that burned to a crisp. Any insight you can give me would be nice. Thanks

upper thermo coupler is probably bad and it wont let the element reach full temp and sets back to default "bake"

Could be the sensor inside the oven.Mine burnt out when using the self clean feature. Two screws un-plug replace with new. Part less than 15 dollars

the ignitor is bad, the ignitor opens the valve when there is enough amperage. the ignitor isn't pulling enough to fully open it

glow plug needs to draw 4 amps to open gas valve even if it red hot ...not drawing 4 amps replace glow plug

May be the heating coil is bust?
The control panel is in parallel usually so as long as the controls are getting power they will turn on. But if the coil is gone you wont get heat. If you want to try fixing it, you may need a multimeter, or a continuity tester.

best guess is thermostat I believe the broiler does not need the thermo in oven.. it stays on steady hot .. thats why it still works

You said, your broiler and oven won't work. That you set bake and it beeps and the bake light flashes but oven wont light.

Does the display flash any error codes, or just the bake light?



Fault codes
1. BAKE or LOCK may flash rapidly in the display to alert you if there is an error
or a problem. If BAKE or LOCK appear in the display, press the CANCEL pad.
2.If BAKE or LOCK continue to flash, disconnect power to the appliance.
3.Wait a few minutes, and then reconnect power. If the flashing still continues,
disconnect power to the appliance and call an authorized servicer.
4.If the oven is heavily soiled, excessive flareups may result in a fault code during
cleaning. Press the CANCEL pad and allow the oven to cool completely, wipe out
excess soil, then reset

For most concerns, try these first.
Check if oven controls have been properly set.
Check to be sure plug is securely inserted into receptacle.
Check or re-set circuit breaker. Check or replace fuse.
Check power supply

I'll check the repair manual to see what I can find.

You probably need to replace the the ignitor. Even though it glows red does not mean that it is working propery. If it does not draw at least 3.5 amps the gas valve will not open. This can be check with a amp meter.
