I have a Nikon D60 and I just started having an issue with it. When I take pictures indoors on auto (or any setting) the pics turn out fine. The issue is when I take it outdoors. Every picture is completely washed out and you can barely see it. This happens on auto and any other setting that I have tried. Any solutions?

Update: Thanks for the suggestion, however, I ended up taking to the camera shop before I received it. They shipped my camera back to Nikon for repairs since they didn't know what was wrong with it. The camera shop called me today and apparently the flash circuit board (something like that) had to be repaired. Looks like it's going to cost me $140. Thanks for the help though.

A good solution is from the main overview screen, press the button in the very bottom left-hand corner. From there, you can manually adjust the exposure of all pictures taken. Try turning it down until the pictures look normal. Another thing to try is to lower the ISO, which can also be controlled from the same menu, or from the settings in the camera. The max is 1600, with the lowest being 100.

Why does my Nikon D60 while on auto focus or quick shutter speed either not focus and take the pic or focus and not take pics?

I have a 5D Mark II that has acted up like this. 99% of the time it will reset itself it you power off, remove the lense and allow them to sync up. Try this, it may work for you too!

Our D60 used to take great pictures. I only use it on Auto since most are pics of people or still objects and really I don't know to use all the settings. All of a sudden, the shutter speed is now very...

The pictures are blurry due to camera shake, which in itself is caused by the slow shutter speed. Try using shake reduction setting. To increase the shutter speed, raise the ISO rating.

That is a problem that has to do with the Flash...make sure your flash settings are not turned on. If the flash can't find an image...it rotates and usually never finds the image. It's reading in a Flash mode.

I have a Nikon D60 and my autofocus has stopped working. It is not because of the lense because i have tried other lenses and the auto focus won't work with them either so it must be an issue with the...

You should check custom menu setting 2, and make sure it's set to one of the auto modes. Make sure the lenses you are using are AF-S and not regular AF lenses. The D60 has no autofocus motor, so autofocus only works with AF-S lenses.

I always suggest folks take a look at Ken Rockwell's website also, here's a link to a specific page on autofocus on the D60.

Post a comment here if none of this works and I'll see what else we can do.

My Nikon D60 monitor is dark...no image preview, however, playback for viewing pictures taken works fine. I use the viewfinder for taking pictures, but wonder if I've done something to turn off the monitor...

No, you have done nothing wrong. The D60 does not have the preview function on the monitor like the compact digital cameras. Nikon gave that function a name. It is called 'Live View'. The newr models like the D90 do have that feature. You can read further about your D60 here: www.digitalcamera-hq.com

I have a nikon d60 and my basketball pictures are blurred. I am using the 55-200 mm kit lens and am wondering if I need a faster lens. What do you recommend?

Turn on the sport program or manually use faster than 1/250s exposure. Your 55-200 lense has the f-value of 4-5.6 which is quite enough for the indoors photograhy. Better to use a flash though if you're gonna take some less blurred pictures of the hectic actions of the game.

Nikon d60 won't play back pictures

Sounds like your computer or the software program you're using to download your pics is set to automatically erase the card after the download.

I have the Nikon D60 - Ive taken sport/action pictures

The main difference between the two shooting conditions is the amount of light you have to work with. For the indoor action shots, set the ISO setting to the highest available through the menu (1600 ISO) to maximize the ability of the camera to work with the diminished light. The other (but more expensive) way to achieve better indoor shots is with the use of a "faster" lens, ie one with a lower maximum f stop number (f2.8 is faster than f3.5, for instance). Also ensure you are shooting with your lens at its widest f stop setting (lowest number).
