Assuming you're in the USA, go to brother-usa.com's
download page. Select the Multi-function family, then your specific model in the box that appears, then your operating system. Agree to the software license, and you'll get a page of drivers & stuff. If you have a fast Internet connection, go for the complete package.
There may also be a program to uninstall the drivers. If you've been trying to connect & use the machine, start by unplugging it from the computer and run that uninstall program. Windows often tries to install an almost-good-enough driver, and the real Brother drivers don't play with that.
Then run the setup program for the driver package you downloaded. It will tell you when it's time to plug in the printer. A computer reboot may be required when it's done. The installation program will tell you.
