Brother MFC-5890cn Color Flatbed All-In-one Printer Logo
Posted on May 01, 2011

Hello, I have a Brother MFC-5890CN Printer/Fax/Copier which has a wired connection to my PC (Windows 7) & works very well. However I would also like to be able to access the MFC-5890CN from my Laptop (Windows XP) which wirelessly accesses the internet via my Sky DLink router which I believe is the DSL-2640S model. I have believe this can be achieved by an ethernet connection from the MFC-5890CN to the DSL-2640S. Would you please let me know how this can be achieved and what are the connection points on the 'hardware'. I am quiet happy to continue accessing the MFC-5890CN via the wired connection to my PC. A wiring diagram would be most useful! Kind regards

This above network user guide document also explains configuring the setup
on the back of the printer look for an ethernet symbol
look at

to see what it looks like
then plug in cat 5e ethernet cable (not a crossover cable )
on the back of the router should be several ports with the same symbol .

You can download drivers from:

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/download_top.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc7420_all

Select your version of windows 7 (32 / 64 bit). If you are unsure you can find this by right clicking on your computer in the start menu and choosing properties.

My Brother MFC-5890CN Printer wont print. It does scan.I have tried re-installing the drives but when it gets to the last section the box just asks for the machine to be connected. I have also changed the...

I can't print nothing from my PC or trough network, but still I can Scan, Fax, etc. I'm using Windows 7 Home Basic, I already installed the driver ( "Connection via USB Cable" ) and I have plenty enough ink ... I checked the Settings, Test Page is OK, but nothing else want to be pinted. I had a problem with my MFC 5890 in the very begining ( nearly 2 weeks ago ) so I had to unplug and than plug in the USB Cable and in this situation the printing of my "pending documents" was successful, but from few days ago there is no such a thing that could make it print. I am tryn to download software to install brother mfc 8220 fax printer copier scanner pc fax machine. and having trouble getting right software and loaction for it. using windows xp

Assuming you're in the USA, go to brother-usa.com's download page. Select the Multi-function family, then your specific model in the box that appears, then your operating system. Agree to the software license, and you'll get a page of drivers & stuff. If you have a fast Internet connection, go for the complete package.
There may also be a program to uninstall the drivers. If you've been trying to connect & use the machine, start by unplugging it from the computer and run that uninstall program. Windows often tries to install an almost-good-enough driver, and the real Brother drivers don't play with that.
Then run the setup program for the driver package you downloaded. It will tell you when it's time to plug in the printer. A computer reboot may be required when it's done. The installation program will tell you.

Have the brother mfc-5890cn having fax issues

Can you hear the receiving fax pick up the line? If so, you may need to slow the speed of your fax modem to allow for poor line conditions. You can find the instructions on page 12 of the Users Guide. If you don't have one, you can download a PDF file of the guide on the Brother web site.
