The minus 04 is the exponent of ten. The number is 9.765625 times ten to the minus 4, or
0.0009765625

The calculator automatically switches to scientific notation when the number gets too small or too large, in order to make it fit onto the display.

Luke wants to find the difference 175 - 134. He has subtracted the hundreds and tens so far. What is the sum of the two numbers he has subtracted? How much does he still need to subtract?

SUM means adding not subtracting. so if you were wanting to add the total (the sum) of the amounts of the hundreds and the tens would be 170 plus 130 which would be 300 but the remainder from subtracting 130 from 170 would be 40. That would leave the single units 5 minus 4 of which the remainder is 1. So, the remainder from subtracting 134 from 175 is the reminder of subtracting the one hundred from the one hundred which is zero added to the remainder of subtracting the tens (70 minus 30) which is the remainder of 40 plus the remainder of subtracting the units of 5 minus 4 which is 1. So you need to add the 0 and the 40 and 1 which is the remaining sum of 41.

Convert decimal

It means "six point one times ten to the minus four" or 0.00061 .

Read the "E" as "times ten to the". The calculator switches to scientific notation when the number is too small or too large to display using the current display mode.

I have a TI-83 plus calculator. I put into the calculator 96-5.970 ^2 multiplied by 0.2723 and it gave me the answer 2.4507 ^E- 4 Is there anyway to get the answer to the decimal value instead of it...

2.4507E-4 is scientific notation for 2.4507 times ten to the minus 4, or .00024507.

Take the 2.4507 and move the decimal point, to the left if the exponent is negative, to the right if it is positive, the specified number of positions.

If the magnitude of the result is too small or too large, the calculator will automatically switch to scientific notation. Imagine a number that has more than 12 digits to the left of the decimal point. How is that going to fit onto the display? Or a number that is 0 followed by the decimal point followed by 12 0s and then some significant digits?

Ok. I inherited my rangemaster 110 when I moved house. I've no manual but a digital clock with a bell, 2 strange looking things that I presume mean ho and oven, then a hand and a plus and minus button. ...

Most of these timers have 3 buttons, the hand and the plus and minus buttons. Try pressing the minus and plus buttons at the same time. The display should flash. Then adjust the time with the plus and minus buttons. If this doesn't work just try different combinations of pressing 2 buttons. If the timer is not faulty on of these combinations will work.

2 to the 42 power enter gives you an answer of 4.398046511E12 what does the E mean / how do I find out what the actual number is ?

The E means "times ten to". The calculator is giving you an answer of 4.398046511 times ten to the twelfth power, or 4,398,046,511,000. This is a thirteen digit number, while the calculator can only show ten digits, so the last three digits are merely placeholders. To get an actual number, you'll have to do multiprecision arithmetic. There are programs available for that purpose at http://www.ticalc.org .

The full number is 4,398,046,511,104 .

What does this answer mean: 2.469E13

This means 2.469 times ten to the thirteenth, or 24,690,000,000,000

Since this number has fourteen digits, it exceeds the display capacity of the calculator. The calculator switches to scientific notation in order to give you the result if the magnitude of the number is too large or too small to display normally.

My calculator casio fx 350ES doesnt give me right anwser.this is the anwser from my calculator when i inter this numbers 220 000-100 000=120 (there should be 3 more zeros).it happens all the time when i...

Did you enter a dot as a separator for the thousands? If yes, this is the error. The calculator interprets all digits following the dot as fractions of decimals.
So you enter 220.000 meaning 220 thousand, your calculator gets it as 220 comma 0, and thats where your three zeros go...

To make it right, enter your numbers as 220000 - 100000 and you'll get 120000 as result.

Okay, so I'm trying to fix my exponents over here. I needed to find out what 0.77 is to the 22nd Power...so i put it in my calculator and get this CRAZY number: 3.18270183 x 10^03...What the hell???? How...

Your calculator is giving you the correct answer, telling you that 0.77 to the 22nd is about 3.1827 times ten to the minus 3, or 0.0031827 . By default, the calculator will switch to scientific notation if the magnitude of the number is less than 10 to the minus 2, or 0.01. You can put the switch at 10 to the minus 9 by repeatedly pressing the MODE key until you reach the screen showing "Fix Sci Norm" on the top line. Press 3 to select Norm, then press 2 to select Norm2.

The calculator can only show ten digits. The only way it can show a number with ten or more leading zeroes is to switch to scientific notation.

How do I ente 8x - 1 over 10 on my TI 84 plus silve edition

Hello,
I am not sure what the cross (x) means: is it a multiplication or the variable x, so I took a screen capture of both cases.

The top case is obtained as follows the asterisk is the multiplication sign to thr right of digit 9; the small minus is the change sign key the minus sign in parentheses under digit 3 and to the left of ENTER key.; the forward slash is the division sign, above the multiplication sign.
This small minus called change sign makes a positive number negative and a negative number positive, hence its name. If your expression starts with a negative sign that is the one to use. Use it also for negative exponents.

As you can see the result is -.8. Notice how the - before the dot is small with respect to the regular minus, as in the last expression.

For the last expression on the screen capture, there is nothing special, except that you have two ways to enter the variable X.

1. Press [ALPHA] [STO->]
2. Press the key [X,T, Theta, n] to the right of the green [ALPHA] key.

Hope it helps.
