First try removing all four AAA batteries and the small lithium backup battery (above the four AAA batteries). Leave all batteries out for five minutes, then replace them and try to start the calculator. If this doesn't work...

Replace all but 1 AAA battery. Press and hold the "CLEAR" button on the calculator. While holding the "CLEAR" button down, replace the missing AAA battery. While still holding the "CLEAR" button, turn the calculator on. The display should read "RAM Cleared". Release the "CLEAR" button and press again to remove the message.

If that doesn't work, remove 1 AAA battery again. Repeat the preceding instructions with the "DEL" key: With the battery removed, press and hold the "DEL" key. With the "DEL" key held down, replace the battery and turn the calculator on. The screen should say "Waiting... Please install calculator software now." Release the "DEL" key. Download this program onto your computer (from Texas Instruments). Connect the calculator to the computer using the USB cable provided with purchase. Run the TI OSDownloader program and follow the on-screen instructions to re-install the calculator's operating system.

My screen lost about 8 rows of pixels from the bottom so my calculator is almost useless. I was wondering if they sell replacement screens of if there is a way to fix this. I would like to avoid buying a...

Before you send your calculator off to get it fix, please try this Ti 84 plus reset. If after preforming this reset and, installing the OS, and the problem with the pixels is still present then look for a replacement.

The resets described in these troubleshooting steps will cause a loss of applications, programs and data. If at all possible please create a backup using TI Connectâ„¢ first.

  1. Try a new set of AAA batteries.
  2. Adjust the contrast by pressing and releasing the [2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as necessary. To adjust or lighten the display, use the down arrow.
  3. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR],
reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the
message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message.
  4. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [DEL] key. While holding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display
"Waiting...Please install calculator software now". Follow the instructions for the
TI-83 family or TI-84 Plus family to reinstall the calculator operating system.
  5. Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary. If this reset does not work to clear the problem then read further. Sorry to hear about your broken screen. Some people replace the screen on their own. I feel this is a bad idea, and this procedure may fail, and sometimes does not look pretty. You will be much better off to contact Texas Instruments for replacement even if (Out of Warrenty). It usually cost about ($75 for a Ti89) and, probably even less for a Ti84 plus depending on their rating usage of your calculator. For the price you pay to have a repair shop fix your calculator, you'll be much better off going through Texas Instruments. If your calculator is still under warranty it might only cost you shipping. Plus, Texas Instruments work will be guaranteed, instead of taking the chance of having your calculator rigged together. First, thing to do if you seek replacement by Texas Instruments is to contact Texas Instruments, and fill out a request for a Returned Material Authorization (RMA) number for a product replacement. You can start that process by clicking here! Once your at their web site double click the icon Customer Support Form. Simply fill out their TI-cares Customer Assistance form. They will respond quickly with an email. All you have to do is reply to that email, and you will be given a RMA number and further instructions.

To contact Customer Service with out going to the Texas Instruments web site send an email to [email protected] or call 1-800 TI CARES (1-800-842-2737) Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 7:00pm or Friday 10:00am - 7:00pm Central Standard Time.

Reinstalling the OS fot the TI84Plus

How do I correct the Error Waiting...Please Install Calculator SoftwareNow message on my TI-83 Plus family or TI-84 Plus family calculator?

If an operating system (OS) update fails or is interrupted, the calculator will be in an inoperable state with the message Waiting...Please install calculator software now.The most common cause of a transfer being interrupted is updating the operating system on a calculator with low batteries. Users will need to use the TI Connectivity cable and the TI Connect to send the operating system to the calculator. Make sure to have the latest version of TI Connect installed on the computer.
In order to install the software please follow these steps:
1. Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the computer and the calculator.
2. Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader
3. Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS.
If the message "Error! Press any key to turn unit off. Then turn unit back on." appears on the graphing calculator, quickly, remove one battery from the calculator and reinstall it while the transfer is taking place.

If that does not solve the problem, you should contact Texas Instruments at [email protected] or www.ti.com/calc.

Ti84 Plus Turns on, and turns off right away.

I had the same problem like yours. First, I reset the RAM and then it no longer turned off right away; but it responded extremely slowly. Second, I tried to install the new OS for it, but unsuccessful until I blowed really hard several times into the round connector. After that, the cursor started blinking. Finally, I downloaded the new OS into it and hoped that the problem never happen again.
You go to http://education.ti.com and follow their procedures to reset the RAM.

I dropped TI84 silver and now it won't work at all.

If you open the battery case and then open the lithium battery case (with a screw driver), there is a "reset" hole inside the lithium battery case area. Use a small screwdriver or something that will reach inside the reset hole and press. Good luck!
