Try the Troubleshooting section of your manual:

Check that the machine is not set to wind a bobbin.
Remove all the thread and rethread from the beginning.

Take your bobbin to the fabric store. They can help you find the right one. Most Singer machines only use 1 of 2 designs. It is either TOTALLY flat, or only slightly curved. I think the #s are 515 or 55, or something very similar like that. I bought the wrong ones once and had opened the package and lost my receipt before I got back to the store so I just left them to donate them to their sewing classes for beginners. Good luck

& a free down loadable workbook (pdf )
Go to the home page
At the bottom of the page look for instruction manual--click on it
It will take you to another page
In the box put the model number (example 9910 ) & click search

I would say that it probably is time for a tune up, they are kind of like cars and need to tuned up every so often. Luckily, not as expensive as cars. Good luck
