The DV's all have pretty serious issues as a whole. DV1000's are currently under investigation for class action and I could give them info to add about 20 more model numbers but these are not my suit. The one with the power light flashing try a new adapter first but I'm sceptical. Weve seen way too many of these in and they like to short components are kill Maxim chips for PMU..

Bad capacitors are the most likely devil... take this unit to a good electronics repair shop and have them run diagnostics on power side of board

Not a software problem, neither because of 'evil windoze'. HP has accepted a critical hardware problem, you can find it here.. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842155&lang=en&docname=c01087277
There is no solution other than take it to the nearest service center. You may get lucky if you keep it on for a long time, so that the BIOS comes up!

You better take a look at HP's website.. maybe you will need a slightly different driver, since your computer is not exactly the same as mine. I'm sure the sound card is the same, but better safe than sorry. good luck!
