I have the mytouch 3g i want to do a hard factory reset because im locked out when i do the home and power key an get to the selections i can scroll down to the optiion to factory reset but when i click track ball it does nothing!! i need help

If the handset is locked, frozen, or unresponsive, you can perform a master reset it using the hardware keys instead of the menu. A master reset restores the original factory settings and may erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). To perform a master reset using hardware keys, follow these steps:

1. If the device is responding at all, back up your data before proceeding.

Note: The device must be turned on to synchronize or transfer files.

2. Turn off the device.

Note: If the device is unresponsive and does not turn off, remove and then reinsert the battery.

3. Press and hold the Home key and the Power key for at least 25 seconds, even if the Startup screen appears.

4. Release the keys when you see a black screen with a warning sign.

5. Press the Home key and the Power key again.

6. When the Android system recovery utility appears, use the trackball to scroll to and select Wipe data/factory reset.

7. Once the device finished the data wipe, select reboot system now.

The HTC myTouch 3G is highly customizable and you have been hard at work tweaking it to your liking, but now the fun is over and you want to return it to its factory settings again.

Here, we show you how to hard reset the HTC myTouch 3G with step by step instructions.

Please note that all data will be deleted from the HTC myTouch 3G as a result of this procedure. This process does NOT delete data stored on the microSD card. We recommend backing up all of your personal data before proceeding.

1. Turn the power off. If your HTC myTouch 3G is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
2. Press and hold the Home button and the red End button for 30 seconds
3. Release the buttons when a warning appears on the display
4. Press and hold the Home button and the red End button again
5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Use the trackball to select Wipe data/factory reset

All data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC myTouch 3G. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.



This will restore you setting. You will lose anything not stored to google or your SD card. But your phone will work again.
