Standby flashing light shows that tv got some internal problem. How many times standby light is flashing is info that provide info about what section of tv got problem. Count standby light blinks and let me know, there would be 3 seconds long pause in blinks so count pause to pause.
It is rear projection TV that use 3 picture tubes of red-green-blue to show color picture on tv front screen. Do you see standby red light blinking when TV shuts off after showing blue image for a while? If red standby light is blinking, please count it how many times it blinks, there would be 3 seconds pause between blinks so count pause to pause and post it here to find out possible solution. When Sony TV gets problem it goes to standby as protection mode and LED start flashing. Do you see standby light blinking? There would be 3 seconds interval between blinks so count from pause to pause and let me know. Thanks.
Since the TV is still receiving power, the problem is going to be with the TV's mainboard. After you unplugged the TV and plugged it back in, you said the power light went out again, so I assume the standby light wasn't flashing again? The flashing standby light is indicating an error code so my suggestion is to contact Sony for service options regardless if there is a warranty or not because service is the only solution to this situation. Don't forget to provide them the error code or 4 flashes repeating.
Please update this with the blink count. The standby light shouldbe blinking a repeated count with a pause. This will indicate the problem circuit and allow me to provide you with the probable defective part(s).
FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about
30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with
the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C
board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking,
try turning up screen slightly.
