But the solution more and more people are using is a CB radio, it can offer you real time informations regarding everything happens on the road. I also use it.
it picks up laser from a wider band , so even some of the newer police lasers can be picked up. keeps you from having to buy a radar detector every year.
It may be old technology, but honestly, the radar guns still emit the same signals that these radar detectors look for to alert you. Newer detectors may have a little better sensitivity and better anti-falsing technology, but basically there isn't much difference between one made in 1980 and one made today. (Kind of like an AM radio)
I am not 100% familiar to this model, but generally, all radar bands are the same across detector brands.
Generally, all the bands with the exception of X-band are considered actual radars that law enforcement uses. In other words, if you see K, Ka, or Laser, you should probably slow down.
X-Band, in most states, is a survallence band used by wireless traffic cameras and automatic door openers at retail stores.
Another common indicator is a P, or POP. Essentially, an officer has switched on and off his radar quickly. This is an evasion technique cops use to thwart radar detector use.

The manual is not available from any source anymore. Not only that, this model only detects X and K band radar. It does not detect any Ka band radar nor laser. You don't want to use this older model as a means of defense against modern police radar and laser guns.
Uniden has been out of the radar detector business for some time now. I would strongly suggest getting a different radar detector instead of using this older model since newer radar detector models generally have far better performance -- especially for detecting Ka band radar.
Anyway, Uniden's web site does not list an instruction manual for this particular radar detector model. Yet, take a look at the instruction manual for the most similarly numbered product model shown in the following link:
One of the instruction manuals in the above link should be similar enough to your radar detector so that you can figure out everything regarding your specific Uniden RD model.
