You are not crazy, it's a defective product. If it's new, return it for warranty. If used and it worked before, sadly as a general rule, phones wir severl "bases" ar problematic.and sooner or later some of those bases stop working.
Since you declined to specify the model of your Uniden phone, I can only direct you to select it from the list beginning at
http://www.uniden.com/scat/cordlessphones_mnl to download a copy of the manual.
on the second manual here on page 9 you find the settings to answer. I think they have used the same shortcuts for these models. They write ;
### This feature is used to set the unit to answer a call after a specific number of rings. The unit announces the rings to answer. To change, press NEXT or PREVIOUS. To set and go on to the next item, press SET. 1. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS until the unit announces and displays the correct number of rings for the answerer to pick up. 2. Once the rings to answer is set, press SET. The unit announces the rings to answer, then enters the incoming message length menu. TOLL SAVER The toll saver is the final setting in the Rings to Answer..........####
For the GE model you find these features on page 17
One last thing, you can contact Thomson Consumer Electronics for more specific answer or get the manual here : http://www.home-electronics.net/ge/pc/contact.asp they have also a phone : "For customer service assistance, dial 1.800.448.0329. Our hours of operation are Monday thru Friday, 8am to 8pm Eastern, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 7pm Eastern."
Hope that helps IF NOT then try to return here Have a nice time over there Please rate my answer
I also had this problem and then I found a solution from another site. Just open the handset and remove the battery for about 1 minute. Reinstall the battery and go through the register procedure again - it will register almost immediately. just keep the handset near the base.
Here is a link to the GE website with manuals. I found 5922 EE1 and EE2. I wasn't able to find FE2, but I bet that one of the 5922 manuals will probably help...
I have a GE 6.0 cordless & it did work great but, Now for what ever reason it crackels & the static is so bad i can not understand those who call me . I love this phone so please help me. ?
You have to register the hand set in the main base. Place each handset in the base for 15 seconds minimum. It will change form unavailable to Ready when it grabs the signal from the base. If the power goes out, you will have to re-register each hand set in the base before you use them again.
I think this may be the answer. With multiple handsets reading "Please register" and a "working" base station (w ith dial tone). If you bring the remote units to the base station and place them on hte base, they will register and stay registered after you return them to the remote base. It doesn't say this anywhere in the instructions as it gives you the impression the remotes will register from their own base.
Each handset has to sit in the base cradle for at least 15 seconds to register. It should say ready within a few seconds. Same thing after the power shuts off. All handsets have to be re-registered in the main base set.
