How do I delete tapes on a Philips System 500 Hi-Q please

If your new tapes squeak while recording, there could be misalignment in the record path or it could be worn. Curious that no tapes were supplied with the machine. Perhaps you can take the machine to the vendor to demonstrate operation with squeaking.

How do you remove tape protected symbol?

Press and hold down the REWIND and PLAY buttons
together until tape is fully re-wound.

The mechanism would not have reset to allow the door to latch on. it could be a possible failure of the main/dirve belt. you will also have to check if the hinges are broken or if any freign particles have logged in. Removing the deck mechanism and changing thebelt will require a little expert work and so be very careful in removing.

You are able to erase tapes on this machine by holding down the play and rewind buttons together. To clear the entire cassette, you'll need to physically turn the tape over and repeat.

The unit will need service. There is a sensor that detects that the tape is turning and has gone bad.

After you transfer the data to the DVD, you can use a DVD editing program like the DVD remake found on this link

I have just taken over a Philips MF-JET 500 and the red light is flashing and I do not know how to clear and make it work. Where in Paris can I get an owners manual for this machine

If the tape re-winds when you take your foot off the pedal then the auto-rewind switch on the right side of the machine at the back is set to number 3. Move it forward to number 1 or 0. If it really does rewind while your foot is on the pedal then I don't know what is causing that. Sorry.
