Possible causes of this problem include:
1.) A loose connection either of the graphics card or the cables to and from the monitor/graphics card.
2.) A faulty graphics card.
3.) A faulty monitor.
4.) A bad Graphics driver. See this guide entitled How to install Graphics Drivers, Nvidia and AMD Radeon!!!
Remove the graphics card and clean the gold fingers with tissue paper. Clean as mush dust as you can out of the system.
