My camera was working fine until today. Now every second picture seems to be framed with red and green flames around the pictures. Can you help me? Do you think the settings have been changed by mistake?

    Thank you.

I bought my sony DSC-T1 3 years ago, had no problems untill 3 months ago. now the LCD screen has a prism affect. All colours around the the objects on the screen.

same thing here. one day....but strangely it was about 2 months after i installed a new memory 2gig card in my camera....any connection?
thanks for posting the link! i gues I have a month left. I appreciate the thread to help me get it fixed.

My camera doesn't take any picture, the LCD is black but I can display the picture in memory car.

  • Anonymous Apr 28, 2009

i had the same problem (defective sensor). fine orange lines on lcd display and on downloaded pictures.

i called the 866 number above and was advised that it is a common problem, which sony will repair for $20 (billed to credit card), including shipping to & from the repair center in laredo, texas. sony sends a ups shipping label to you by e-mail so you can ship the camera to the repair center.

ratedk: thank you so much! i was going to toss the camera because i thought the repair would cost $141. sony's website doesn't mention this problem. the sensor problem it mentions is different from this one.

"owners are instructed to contact the Sony Customer Information Services Center for further assistance at 1-866-703-7669."  -  Tell them you have a CCD (image sensor) failure.
If their trouble shooting does not solve the problem (have your battery fully charged), you will have the opprotunity to have it repaired for $15 s/h.   Have your CC# handy.

said: To those in the US affected by this problem..... http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?mdl=DSCT1&news_id=161 I went, and it appears that Sony will repair my camera for $20 S&H. The link also provides a verification test using the movie function. BUT THE OFFER EXPIRES 3/31/2010. === It has come to our attention that a limited number of products, manufactured before March 2004, and incorporating a certain type of image sensor device (CCD), may exhibit the following:
  • When the product is used in camera mode, the LCD panel2_bing.gif and/or electronic viewfinder exhibits either a distorted image or no image at all.

We have determined that this only occurs in a limited number of devices, but may be accelerated if they are exposed to hot and humid environments.
Until March 31, 2010, Sony will repair, free of charge, the following product models exhibiting the above-mentioned symptom where it is caused by the image sensor device:
  • DSC-F717
  • DSC-T1
